liquid restrictions for handbaggage??

hi,

I know about the hand baggage restriction and only being allowed to take 100mls of any fluid in a clear bag, but how many bottles of said fluid can be taken aboard ( i have dry skin). if i take three or four 100ml bottles will they think i'm taking the piss and make me leave them.

I'm not cheap but i hate to waste money. if i cant take them in handluggage i will be forced to put them in checked baggage.I will of course look like a raisin but precious little we can do...

As long as all the 100ml bottles fit in your plastic bag, you'll be okay to take them through security.

Yep, as long as they fit into your 8"x8" clear plastic bag and it can close properly, you can take as many as you want.

sorry to be a bother but what about... blusher do you think that will make security, it in a small compact brush?? will foundation (liquid under 100ml) make the cut??

Provided it is in a container that is 100ml or less and it fits into your plastic bag, there will be no issue.

Do they still make you do the plastic bag thing? Both here and in the US I wasn't asked to put my liquids in a plastic bag, I just left them in my hand luggage and didn't have a problem.

I carry liquids in my handbag through security all the time without a plastic bag, but I don't think they're as bothered with staff as long as it's still under 100ml.
I think (and this is trying to remember training 2 years ago) you can have up to 10 items in a bag, ie. no more than 1litre of 100ml bottles etc. If it's medical though, and has a blurb on it about being prescribed by a doctor you can take it through even if it's over 100ml.
It can depend on who you get at security though, some are alot fussier than others. I've heard of all sorts getting through security though which just proves that some are more vigilant than others.

MAN now charge you for the clear plastic bags, so take your own if you are going though MAN at all.

I bet it only a matter of time before other airports do the same.

As I mentioned above, I went through LHR with 2 small liquids just in my hand luggage without any issues at all, the security officer on the VS channel even asked me abt liquids I had and said I was okay to just leave them in my hand luggage.

i have flown out of SOU, MAN, LHR, & LGW recently and although they have plastic bags on the entrance to security i have never been asked to remove liquids from my hand luggage and have never had a problem. flying back from the US (MCO in April) security didn't even ask about fluids either.

Lucky you - they're always strict on liquids everytime I go through even as a passenger. My bag always gets tested too.

I flew out of Luton a couple of years ago & the only liquid item I had was a 100ml tube of toothpaste, so I dared not to bother with the plastic bag. Approached security holding said tube of toothpaste (so not trying to hide it in any way). The "guard" just before the x-ray machines said I could not take the toothpaste through without a clear plastic bag. I asked him how much difference the bag made to the x-ray image. His answer was "a lot". I politely called him a jobsworth & binned the toothpaste.

Yes, I know the rules state you need the plastic bag - but when you only have one liquid item... I am sure the idea behind the plastic bag is to limit the total volume of liquids & also to stop you dropping all your liquid items in the security area, thus causing a delay.

I should add that I have since invested in a clear plastic bag - but that guy at Luton was a jobsworth!

There are odd US airports which seem to have their own criteria re how many 100 liter bottles you can have. Certainly it's forbidden to have a third of a tube of toothpaste left in an entire tube, but I have had bottles removed according to some secret code as in 'that's too many' especially if I have a plastic bag in my handbag as well as my carry on. This past winter the TSA checker allowed me three bottles outside the limit as she said she would add them to the allotment of the gentleman just behind me--who was unknown to me but kindly played dumb.

Which sort of makes a mockery of the rules.

The BAA website is very clear that the containers must be in a clear, resealable bag.

I've occasionally gone through security at LHR for my ongoing flight with EI with the toothpaste from the amenity kit in my carry on or handbag, completely forgetting that it was there. I've never been stopped about it only finding it when I arrived home.

The US has the 3 1 1 rule - three bottles/containters upto 100ml and in 1 bag per traveller

The containers themselves need to be 100ml capacity or less. You are not supposed to get away with a a 1/2 botttle of a 200ml container or a half of a full size tube of toothpaste.

They seem to have got a lot less strict on if you take it out of the bag or not wherever I fly. I just carry them in an outside pocket ready to come out if needed, which is occasionally these days. It's actually a pretty good idea to have them in a ziploc anyway in case they leak...

Tonty, 311 is actually bottles up to 3.4 ounces (100 mil) 1 quart bag per 1 person - It's America what can you do?? Bellow from the TSA website:

3.4 ounce (100ml) bottle or less (by volume) ; 1 quart-sized, clear, plastic, zip-top bag; 1 bag per passenger placed in screening bin. One-quart bag per person limits the total liquid volume each traveler can bring. 3.4 ounce (100ml) container size is a security measure.
