Ok guys am currently looking at getting back out to Florida to visit the parents in September. Now normally, as many of you may know, I tend to head off in June/July time. This year I have been particuarly busy at work and not gotten round to organising anything.

So I did a quick search expecting to find that a two week trip out to MCO would be relativley cheap given that it won't be school holidays and the last time I did an MCO trip in Sept (back in '06) the flight back had a whopping 35 pax on board!

However I am coming back with some silly prices for Y currently, up around the £700-1000 mark! (Lowest I have found is about £515 into MIA)

Am I missing something? Is there some huge convention happening in MCO during September? Do school holidays now include September?! Ideas on a postcard please..

There are a couple of threads bemoaning flight prices in the forums, Will.

I am waiting on booking two or three trips - SFO, BOS. NRT and Florida prices are all silly money right now. The prices remain high right through to next year for the dates I have tried.

There are a number of reasons I suppose - high loads (so why reduce prices), BA dispute, and a need to recoup money paid out in the volcano crisis.

A lot of us are waiting for a sale - who knows when and if that will materialise.

School term hereabouts starts September 1st / 2nd. There might be a few holdouts that keep their offspring away for the first week, but not in the numbers that would suggest a massive amount of demand. Even where the school adopts the "standard school year" of 6 terms rather than 3, the first week of September is the first week of term.

Putting aside the often "extension" that some have to the tradional summer school holidays, I suspect current pricing is predicated on the BA strike carrying on - i.e. why reduce prices when there may not be any competition :w

Let's all hope things get back to normal, and let's all have a sale ):

Yes that does make sense. It's crazy how even the BA strike at LHR can effect prices on an LGW route (BA aren't striking at LGW). I guess I will just hold out for the moment. The only airline that seems to be rather reasonable at the moment is Thomson and I don't think I am that desperate just yet!!!

To a lot of people BA is BA* and it dosen't matter that LCY and LGW flights are operating normally. All they see on the news is 'BA on strike and (some) planes / routes not flying'

* and a lot of people still think that BA and BAA are still state owned

I would hold out a bit Will, pretty certain prices should lower a bit. Out of interest what fare code are you being quoted?

Also have you tried a VH flydrive to see how they price up?

Will, prices had to go up.
That or more cuts in service.
Oil costs are way up, Sterling way down and then there's taxes!

We don't see VS figures but BA's tell the story.

I don't expect any major sale unless an all-out price war starts with BA and others - and that would not be good for Virgin's future! (Or for our long-term prospects of leisure flights to MCO)

Neil VH have quoted £1500 approx per person for the old fly drive. Have now found £515 on BA into TPA so may go try the dark side for te first time in about ten years long haul.

Figures vary really. Haven't found anything below £650 on VS into MCO. A Saturday to Saturday in middle of sept returned a whooping £2200 for Y!!Granted I have not had a proper dig at the moment.

I think i will hold out a while longer.

Bill I agree that prices were due to go up but still I find it hard to justify the price VS quote when US legacies, granted with a worse product, offer a one stop service for pretty much the mid 400 mark.

Sometimes in the quieter months, VS cancel some MCO flights so sometimes only have one a day from LGW - could this be the reason?

Not the case with September for MCO both the 15 and 27 operating.

Will, don't dismiss the charter airlines out of hand. Having tried the TOM long-haul product a few years ago to CUN (on a last minute deal) it's far superior to the comparative offering from VS in Y IMHO.

DL I hear what your saying and to be fair it seems the ex First Choice birds look very good. However I dont think I can bring myself to cross the Atlantic without earning miles!!! :w :D
