So when I preselected seats for my flight tomorrow SFO -> LHR I chose 5K in the bubble as the aircraft was showing as all upper class in the bubble. But when I checked in online the plane configuration has changed and there are now economy seats in the back half of the bubble.

So do I take seat 5K or do I switch to a downstairs seat (open seats are only showing as those by the bar) ... I originally picked 5K as I was thinking I would sleep for part of the flight.

Any advice?

Hi Becca

I do not recall there being any recent TRs that have reported on this new (and IMHO failed) configuration.

By rights, if you are in the UC Cabin upstairs, you should be able to get some good rest after the meal service without too much disruption and given you are not in row 1, the queue for the loos shouldn't be a problem.

There will always be traffic as the crew go back and forth between the cockpit, but once the lights are dimmed and you have managed to get to sleep, then you won't notice - well I didn't anyway, when I travelled when it was all UC upstairs last year :)

Thanks for the info. I guess unless something changes before tomorrow I shall be filing my trip report on the new configuration.

And heck if all else fails I'll just walk past all the economy pax and head down to the bar. :| :P

Go downstairs. Service in the bubble on these 747s is poor, you get to wait before the 30+ Y pax to disembark, the noise and activity is greater.

I too would be heading off downstairs if it is a J/Y configured cabin. The one and only time I sat in the bubble with a mixed configuration (J/W) I really didn't like it (and it really devalued the UC experience for me).

Well I arrived in London after a brilliant flight in Upper yesterday. I did keep my original seat 5K upstairs in the bubble, and the service was excellent and the cabin was extremely quiet. TBH except for when I walked down to the bar right past them I didn't even know there were economy passengers back there.

The only downside was the disembarkation process, but as I was waiting for a friend on a flight arriving 30 minutes after mine, it was no bother to me at all.

Full trip report to come later, but I figured that I would post here so that anyone contemplating these seats in the future has more information.
