Just wondering if anyone with similar experience could help me out with the answer to a question.

Arriving in EWR from OKC at 11.30am, next flight is EWR to BFS at 21.25. I was planning on taking a trip into NYC for the day, but was wondering what I should do about my luggage. The flight from OKC is a Continental flight, operated by Expressjet, and all flights are on the same ticket.

Does anyone know if I can check my luggage straight through to Belfast from OKC, without having to collect and check-in at EWR or, if I do have to collect and re-check it, will Continental accept my bags so far out from departure time?
If none of this works, is there a left luggage facility at EWR? I've checked the airport's website and there's no clear answer.

Many thanks!

I may be wrong but if you are through ticketed, you drop your bags at OKC and the next time you will see them is at BFS. so yes you should be able to do a bit of sight seeing for the day.
I am assuming that EWR to BFS is with CO?

Mr Farenheight wrote:Yes, it's CO all the way. I've no experience of making a connection in the US and am aware of connecting passengers having to collect and re-check their baggage, although maybe that's just for folk arriving from outside the US?

Making a connection after arriving into the US is different to leaving - on entry you have to clear immigration and customs, hence you need to have your bags with you. No such issue when leaving. Enjoy your side trip into NY!

Just be sure remind the staff when you first check in at OKC that your bags need to be checked right the way through to BFS.

The luggage lable will then have two destination codes on - as will the little receipt they give you.

Excellent glad to hear that - I will be transiting through EWR from BOS to BFS with the full retinue this summer and will be delighted not to have deal with bags.
