PE 343 v 747

I have only ever flown PE in the bubble and I know that with the refit, this will change. But my question is to get the opinions of more experienced/frequent PE flyers as to the difference in the experience of PE upstairs on a 747 or downstairs on a 343. The change to the a/c from MAN in Apr/May will be my first downstairs PE trip.

I actually prefer the LHR leather PE seats to the LGW/MAN older ones.

I don't think you have much to worry about though as wont the A/C be one the brand new A330's by then?

PE Upstairs {2 & 2} on a 747 are IMHO much better than downstairs on a 343 or 747. In the past I often managed to get the first row {row 70 I think} of PE in the bubble behind the UC section. As this row are on an exit the leg room is terrific and provide the best value for money of any virgin seat in any class.

The new Y seats in those positions must be quite good value in terms of leg room, if you can put up with economy, and the smell of all the food wafting through the half open curtain.

In a recent TR, one member commented on how narrow the aisle is up there now in the Y section, and how sitting in the aisle seat will more than likely result in a whack or two from the CC and their trolley.

Economy on the Upper Deck is very, very cramped - I would always pick a Y seat on the main deck because of this.

One more question - as well as dragging this discussion back OT ): ) - any specific seats preference?

On the 747 if you can get 27A or C, or 28 H or K. These are at the front of the PE section window seats, so you get great leg room, and if you get the 27A or C you're often 1st off as you're right by the door, if the airbridge comes to the second door on the plane.

28A/C is by the boarding door - 27A/C doesn't exist.

Apologies - typo I think!

Should be 28A/C 29H/K. Basically the front rows on either side gives you more leg room!
