Last night I was reviewing my flight to Boston in PE this October in 'Manage my Bookings' when I noticed an offer to upgrade each leg of my journey to UC for £265. When I clicked on the upgrade button for my outbound flight I got the response: This upgrade is no longer available please choose one of the following:-

1) Outbound £266
2) Inbound £266
3) Full itinerary £844

Since I could choose only one I upgraded my outbound flight successfully, hoping to return to upgrade the inbound flight next. Unfortunately when I returned the upgrade options were no longer available.

Does anybody have an idea as to why VS were happy for me to upgrade any one leg for £266 but not both?

I must say the online upgrade options baffle me, and I'm not sure how the system generates the price as it doesn't seem to make sense. If you want to upgrade then I would give VS a call, it seems to be the easiest option.

Because, presumably, for the privilege of a full upper class experience both ways, they want a higher amount. Some might not be willing to pay that much, so in an effort to at least squeeze a bit of extra cash out of you, they offer a one way upgrade for a minimal cost. Just a classic marketing tactic I would say. Rail fairs have often worked like this.

Just checked my booking and it's exactly double the amount to upgrade both ways as it is separately each way with my PE K fare.

I dont know if it's related but the VS website has been a bit flakey today as it took me ages to get a K fare I wanted to IAD. It kept telling me the selected fare wasn't available after clicking next on the matrix screen and kept offering me S fares instead.
