OK folks, I've moved to the dark side simply because VS don't fly to Tel Aviv. I have a through ticket from Cork but it requires an overnight stay before my flight the next morning. On my VS flights I have taken what Priceline have offered and by and large have been happy. Let's face it, a 4* hotel is not to be sneezed at regardless of where it is. However on this occasion I have a very early morning departure and the Sofitel @ T5 is coming in at silly money for the price of stay from about 10p.m. to 6.00a.m. What other hotels are near T5 before I resort to Priceline?

Well, there's the Thistle ...

Hoppa buses run from T5 to all the perimeter hotels (they are specific to T5, too) - not exactly one a minute, but then they aren't so frequent from the other terminals either, are they? And there's the free bus going up the Bath road, probably more predictable too, and if your bag is through checked the ideal option. I'd still chance priceline myself.

Travelodge? They often have very cheap rooms, and if it's only for a matter on a few hours!

It's obviously new and I think Nick has stayed at the T5 one before.

I've stayed at the T5 Travelodge. There's not much you can say about it other than it's a Travelodge.

You also do seem to have to wait longer for hoppa buses at T5.

Yotel at T4?

Not spacious but the price is based on the time you spend there - I know you've priced it before so it might not be suitable. Go for the premium or superior cabin not the standard.

I was charged 63 pounds for a 10pm -7.30 am slot in May.

Agree with James - it is just a Travelodge.

It is new, clean and we didn't suffer from the noise problems that we suffered in the London one we stayed in for the PCP.

We booked it fairly last minute for silly money during a sale. We already had car parking booked and it saved us driving down on the day of the flight.

If you are just looking for somewhere to get your head down and have a meal / drink - then it is fine.

I always prefer the hotels on the Bath Road, so that we can go for a meal / drink at the Pheasant and then walk back to them. 8D

i have stayed at the terminal 5 Travelodge before and have always found it reasonably priced. as others have said it is a Travelodge but is clean and has food on site. if you are only staying for 1 night i would recommend the Travelodge here or the newer one on Bath Road. (heathrow central)

I've just booked the Premier Travel Inn at Heathrow for Tuesday night for £89, if that with a price comparison at all. I think the PTI's are slightly better than the travelodge - they seemed to be 'cared for' a bit more, but it's all much of a muchness really.

I would recommend the Yotel for a single traveller. No need to leave the airport and very comfortable for a night's stay.

We stayed in the Sheraton at Heathrow last year (not the skyline - the other one) and I wouldn't recommend it. The room was dark and tatty, and it looked, at one point, at though there would be nowhere to park. Not a good start to a holiday, and I'd say pretty poor value.

I've stayed there twice as I've got it in bids on Priceline where you don't know the hotel until you are successful. My room was OK - couldn't complain about that. In fact I couldn't complain about anything given that I was only paying $50 but, I agree. It is nowhere near as good as the Sheraton Skyline

I styaed at the Thistle once - well didnt excatly stay as it was filthy, run down and staff too lack lustre so moved to LHR T4 Hilton (before Sofitel was open). It is rare for me to use a hotel as I live in London only when I arrive one night and have to depart early next day so I demand it to be clean and very comfortable inorder for me to sleep and get VFM. The sofitel is nice and sometimes do some good deals via airlines or HRG.

Is it not worth just ditching the Hoppa and getting a car from the hotel?

In May, a car cost £11, straight to T3, compared to the £4 tour of the airport with a Hoppa. Throw in the time wasted waiting around, more comfort and baggage room, it's a winner with me.

Not sure about T5 though, but I doubt it's a huge amount more.
