Firstly I apologise if this is in the wrong section. :)

We're off to Orlando next month for 24 days - first time UC too! (5 weeks on monday, not that I'm counting!)

Was just wondering if anyone here knows if there are any decent car-hire companies, or if there are any car-hire offers for Orlando.
The ones we have used before seem to have really bumped up the prices this year - I suppose they feel they have a captive audience so can do that.

If not, We'll have to just bite the bullet and pay what we feel to be over the odds.

Firstly, yes car hire prices in Orlando have gone up quite a bit this year, but that is all companies.

I would suggest a look at the broker type companies, we usually use usrentacar, but there are others like carhireflorida, and then also the Virgin Atlantic website car hire section could be a good place to check, we used them for our car hire over on the West Coast earlier this year. All are fine to use, and usually offer a good saving over the big companies direct.

I have used us rentacar for the last few years for car hire at MCO.In my opinion it gives you a good price comparison for most of the reputable car hire companiies at MCO

I suppose they'd argue that they never said there was a discount associated with Gold membership, which they do with #1 club. I love the fact that on the website they state

"Gold Membership is within easy reach, rent just 3 times within a 12 month period and you'll be invited to upgrade to Hertz #1 Club Gold"

So, rent three times and we'll take your discount away!

Hertz #1 Gold has always been a bit hit and miss - the CDP that you use in conjunction has normally been the key factor. Always got an upgrade as a Gold. It's worth checking your GOld profile to check what rate requirements you have listed as that will affect the prices shown.

Has anyone else experienced this?

It may be worth trying both #1 & Gold.

Had fairly good experience of Gold use in May, upgraded at site to a high spec'd presidents circle SUV.
However, made the mistake of adding in mrs NH to drive at site. The price for this when invoiced was ridiculous.. I will be more mindful of price checking next time round. Daft, as the whole concept of offering status to pax, is to increase loyalty. Over charging will result in the opposite.

#1 & gold have always included spouse afaik.
It is stated on their website.
I have confirmed this in the past at their desk.

I would be writing a very strong letter if charged extra!

My parents swear by thirfty, much cheaper than the others and always get upgraded. However with their own car clearly their experience has been one way rentals back to the airport.

I have only used dollar partly as always used VH however thru have now changed to Alamo. I was going to use hertz this year although now not too sure.

Cheers Bill, I've just got $80+ refunded back on my card after firing some "f's" into them. To be fair swiftly dealt with and apologetic..

NB, they had also charged for "Concession Fee Recovery", which should also of been included (what ever that scam is)

"Always double check your receipt"... :w

The concession fee is a payment to the airport.
Again it is included with #1 & Gold!
Glad to hear they fixed it!

I have never been particularly happy with the MCO Hertz office. Nowhere near as good as the service you get at other (smaller) branches.
My solution is just to get a few days from MCO then go to a local office - get much better service, choice of car (eg Mustang not Sebring) and (quite often) upgrades ;)

Thanks for the replies everyone!

Booking the car this week, but stilldon't know if we're going to go with a people carrier or a convertible (there are 3 of us on arrival but all leaving on different days so luggage not a problem)

Will let you all know what we end up doing.
