This was the flight out for a week in Honolulu! Slightly nervous as the options had been reasonably priced coach or far too expensive domestic first. We opted for coach and AA as a BA Silver member you get free baggage and lounge access.

Anyway on arrival at the airport we hoped for the option of an one the day upgrade at the self-service machine (not offered at desk or at curb-side check in). Unfortunately no such luck. Dropped bags off at business desks and headed off to priority security. Through quickly and went to the AA Admirals lounge - very large (and has a first area). Some basic breakfast items, free soft drinks, internet, cash bar. We headed to Chillis to go for a better breakfast. After this relaxed in the lounge - had our free 'cocktail' even though it was early!

Flight called and we had priority boarding due to BA status. Completely full flight - leg room was ok (better than VS economy) and minimal recline so no space invasion. Overhead TV montiors only and very old looking interior. The only issue was that the biggest passenger had the seat next to me (not my other half by the window, the aisle seat). He didn't encroach over the arm rest, just under at times!

Take off on time and headed north from LAX for about 20 mins before a left turn and five hours over the pacific on a B757!! Service was very good - regular drinks runs throughout the flight and you were given the whole can each time. Crew very friendly and cheery the whole way. We purchased sandwiches on board - not that good and had to come as a sandwich/crisp combo (typical American deal). We didn't drink the whole flight, even though it was a out the same time as a LHR-New York flight (and sure we felt better for that when we got off!).

We both read a book throughout the flight - two films offered but not easy to watch on an overhead screen. Then after abouit 5.5 hours suddenly Hawaii appeared and it was time for landing.

Bags off quickly and it was time to head to our hotel - The Hilton Hawaiian Village (lovely room over looking the beach and Diamon Head crater - really recommend it).

Overall a very pleasant flight that seemed to pass very quickly indeed, even travelling in coach (prob as no alcohol consumed during the flight!).

Ah, the old 'should I drink alcohol during flight or not?' question.

I always enjoyed the odd glass of wine on a long haul flight, but it did always leave me feeling very dehydrated.

So on my last flight back from Japan, I thought I'd go sober.

Terrible mistake. Barely slept and felt I was missing out the whole way!
