If I book the flights on miles for myself and my wife will my account need the full miles to cover both tickets or will VS take my ticket from my miles and her ticket from her miles?

If not does it mean we have to book our flights independently to use our own miles for our own tickets?

Thanks.

I had no problem booking two tickets for my partner and myself. I used my miles for my PE flight to DXB and quoted my partner's FC number for his Y ticket using miles and then used my AMEX upgrade voucher to upgrade him to PE. Very helpful agent although I did have to be a bit flexible with dates, but that was no problem!

If one partner authorises VS to talk to the other, and take points from both accounts it can all be done very easily - subject to availability, which is always the variable.

I can't remember how we went about authorising, I believe it was just a case of both of us speaking to the agent during the call, but other may be able to confirm / correct this.

You can use miles from two different accounts, but you need to have enough miles to buy at least a one way reward.

Basically if you wanted to buy 2 x UC round trip rewards, which would be 200k miles in total, then you could do 50k out of your account and 150k out of another account, because it is 50k per ine way sector. What you couldn't do is use say 137k from one account and 63k from the other, to make the 200k in total.

You also need to make sure you are an authorised user on the other account.

The account holder needs to ring up and give the name of the person they want authorised. I see no reason why this cannot be done during the same phone call if you are both present. This will allow miles to come from each passengers account.

The easiest thing to do is for your wife to phone VS and authorise you to be able to access her FC account (and vice versa). You will then be able access her account and the miles within.

What you are trying to do is a regular occurance and wont shock them! They will do any shuffling of miles between the accounts to be able to do what you want - just have the details of the flights you want and do it all at the same time.

I assume you want to do this to make sure both your flights are on the same ticket and PNR?

As Neil mentioned, I think you will need the right mileage in each account, purely combining the two mileages to make "x" can't be done (unless things have changed in last few months).
2 upgrades from Y to UC return, needs 120k mileage (4x 30k blocks), but would need to feed from each account in blocks of 30k (i.e. per one-way UG)
Same applies for full rewards in UC- as Neil says in blocks of 50k

If for example you had 35k in one and 85K in the other, you may hit a problem. as spurious mileage being nicked to boost the bigger account, can't be done...Unless ISTBC

Thanks everyone.

Sounds like I will be fine. We each have 100k+ each - just wanted to book them together for ease.

Now all I need is for her employer to confirm she can have the dates we found a flight for and all is well :)

Perhaps I've misunderstood but are you saying you used miles from your partner's account and the upgrade voucher from your account to upgrade your partner's reward flight? Reason for asking is when I asked about this I was told it wasn't allowed and the miles had to come from my account to use the voucher.

Sorry for late reply - have been away in France.

Yes, I did book the flight using my partner's air miles with my Amex voucher to upgrade to PE. No problem at all with the person I spoke to - strangely enough I only threw away the piece of paper with his name and phone number on today otherwise I would pass it on to you.

Would suggest you try again to speak to another agent who may be more helpful!!
