i have flying club Gold status & have now earned the 30 points necessary to renew this for a further year. if i continue to earn points in this membership year, do they roll over into next year's 30 point total?

No sorry, anything you earn over and above the 30 TP threshold every 12 months is simply lost when your account re-sets every year.

This is one of the biggest annoyances with Flying Club. There's really no incentive to carry on flying VS once you hit 30 TP's every year (unless you plan on earning a serious number of TP's over the 30)

...Except of course if you prefer the VS service to the often miserable flight crew on BA!

And as you say, you do still keep accumulating miles.

What happens if you earn the "serious number" over 30? :?

There are lots of threads here about the invitation only tier above gold - search V-tops / V50 100 club etc.

This is one thread, but there are many others.

By all accounts, it is well worth being a member, but the actual benefits aren't listed in any public arena.

There are threads that mention the actual figure of TPs required before the invitation is issued, but from memory it is into three figures per year.

Thanks Nick, never managed more than the 40 to make AU then the next year just managed 30. The US Amex with up to 24 per year and the ability to get TP on CO and US has improved my chances, but not if the TP's need to be on VS metal.

i got really lucky the first year i was due to renew gold status. i had no flights in but this was when the credit crunch really hit & VS realsied they were going to lose a lot of their business travellers, so they offered a renew to gold with only 10 tier points instead of the usual 30. right before the deadline i got a trans-atlantic trip in UC & scraped the 10 points. this year it looks like i'll have at least 40

You need to make 100+ on VS metal in in J, W or Y (i.e. full fare before any concessionary discount) to kick into the next on of the next tiers - there are 6 of them only only one has anything to do with points earlned
