So the good karma of a hassle free journey into Manhattan was not to be repeated on the way to Newark - with the car picking us up at 5pm it took an hour to get to the Holland Tunnel - and we were only going from East Houston St so not a long journey at all.

However once through the tunnel we sped along and were soon being dropped off at EWR right outside the VS check in.

There was nobody at the UC check in, so my wife and I were quickly checked in. We did ask about an upgrade for her from PE to UC and we were given the price of $1,300. As we'd managed to get her flight for free on my miles anyway, she decided she'd be fine in PE - even though I did keep offering to swap my UC seat!

We were quickly in the lounge and settled down in the far corner to the left, and were soon being served drinks.

Some lounge observations: Lack of windows is a shame, but I do think they have made a really good job if the interior decor, of what isn't the biggest of spaces.
The staff were all great - we never had to go to the bar for a drink.
However it felt to us that the a/c was on way too high - it was cold in there! A few people were asking for blankets, so it was a shame they didn't turn it down a little.
the best thing in the lounge was the food. There was some flat breads and hummus, olives etc on the side, and then when the hot food came out we had a really tasty tex mex chilli. So a massive thumbs up from us for that!

The dessert trolley was wheeled round (but neither of us partook - not having a particularly sweet tooth) but it did look good.

Boarding was called a little late (at 9pm) but security was deserted so we were soon through. (Well, a minor hiccup as there was no security staff overseeing you put your belongings into the machine - I had put the ipad we'd bought that day in the same bucket as the my laptop which confused the man on the xray machine and it had to be put through again.)

Anyway, that all aside, we got to the gate and boarded straight away. At which point I stopped off at seat 7K and my wife had to carry on walking.......

Bucks fizz was ordered and sleep suit donned. We seem to push back pretty quickly but I had nodded off by the time we took off.

As I'd eaten quite well in the lounge, I only had the cheese and biscuits, and was given a huge amount! A large piece of goats cheese, cheddar and two big chunks of stilton and a basket of crackers. After I'd eaten and watched a something on my laptop I headed to the bar where the FSM said I could ask my wife to join me at the bar which I thought was good of them. She did for a while before she wanted to head back to her seat for a sleep.

I did the same (well, went to my seat - not hers!) and I soon was in the land of nod, and the next thing I knew I was being woken for breakfast. Cereal, bacon roll and a coffee were soon consumed and it was time to get ready for landing.

We'd made up the time on our late departure and were stepping off the plane not long gone 9am.

The queue in immigration wasn't too bad at all and we were soon on the HEX and being picked up from there by Addison Lee at 10.15, and back home for 11am.

Overall, another great journey with VS. The CC were great (the one looking after the section I was in was really friendly and helpful) the lounge at EWR is very good considering it's location and size limitation.

Am going back to NYC on VS03 next Monday, so will get the UC experience all over again....!

It was good, yes.

On a trip earlier on this year (before I'd found this site) there was a chap in UC next to me who did the same thing - ask the FSM if his girlfriend could join him at the bar - to which he said yes.

This man then brought his girlfriend to join him at his seat - he then sat at the bar and let her try and get some sleep. The FCM was really unhappy with this and asked her to go back to her seat in PE - him and the man had then quite the argument.

So I was chuffed that the FCM on my flight said she could come to the bar, and I made sure I didn't take advantage!
