LH Exit row

On my recent LH flight I sat in utter amusement as the cabin crew moved an entire row of Italians from an exit row because they could not understand German or English. I suppose technically they were correct in doing so but it had not crossed my mind before as a reason not to be able to sit in an exit row.

On the side, 4 excellent legs again with 2 upgrades to biz, 1 each way

One of the conditions of sitting in an exit row is to follow the instructions of cabin crew in case of an emergency - if they couldn't understand, then they couldn't fulfil their duties.

VS never seem to make much of this on their flights. Other airlines I have been on Southwest, JetBlue and the Australian members of the Virgin family make sure a crew member gives people sat at exit rows a personal briefing, and if they don't want to, or are unable to operate the doors, then they can't sit there. y)

If a crew member is sat by the door then you do not need to speak to the passengers sat there - you just need to make sure that they meet the criteria for sitting there - able bodied, over 16 etc.

However if you are sat at the overwing exit on the right hand side of the A346 where no crew member is sat (they are at the overwing exit on the left hand side), then after boarding you will be given an exit row briefing card to read that explains all the procedures and then you will asked several questions to make sure you are suitable to sit there. If not, you will be moved. Simples.

That makes sense, Tink. All the briefings I have had / seen have been for the over wing exits. Thanks.
