If I'm right, the Newark clubhouse isn't airside?

Therefore, I assume I check-in as normal and drop off any hold luggage and then head to the clubhouse?
If I then decide to go to my flight / gate, how long should I leave to get from the clubhouse, through any security and to the departure gate or whatever?

you're correct, it isn't airside. The concierge will call the flight allowing time for you to get through security where there's a priority lane. It's been a while - i'll be there tonight as it goes - but i seem to remember it's a pretty short walk from clubhouse to gate

It doesn't really matter if you're on the VS1 or VS18 - you'll get called from the clubhouse when most of economy has boarded and security will be quiet. This is one of the few places where the VS staff seem to have their co-ordination and timing working well.

The walk from clubhouse to security is about 50m. Your only choice is whether to slowly follow the majority in the clubhouse, or go as soon as the call comes.

When I flew out of Newark last week, we left the CH just as we were being called and security was deserted. (This was for VS1)

It's not worth going down earlier - there is nothing to do at the gate.

Yes its only a short walk (from the CH to security then from security to the gate) but I don't think there is a priority lane at EWR - certainly didn't notice one in February when I was on the VS2.

But the queue were very short and quick and the only hold up then was caused by me having a forgotton water bottle in my carry on !

Should I have not used your post to check what flight number it was then?!

plus i found out last night, if you're checking in with only hand luggage you can bypass the desk & check in at the lounge. thanks to a very helpful agent who actually walked me to the lounge.

i presume this will be the same at JFK with that lounge also being pre-security?
