I know I should know the answer (and it's probbaly a really obvious answer like 'phone FC') to this but am suffering from brain ache.

I'm looking to use miles to upgrade from PE to UC - 40k miles

I know I need to be in S or W (S preferable to save a few pennies as its £ 1280 compared to £ 1975 for LHR to NYC for when I want to travel)

(If there was a sale I'd probbaly go for a Z but no sale at the moment)

I know I also need G availability but where in the booking engine process does this show up?

I got as far as the page to enter my CC details but obviously don't want to fork out if there are no G's (and yes I was logged in and used the option to select an S fare).

As Bear says, it's doing a dummy booking for a reward flight and then using this link to book.

Bear in mind though that if there is a limited amount of availability you may well have blocked the one remaining seat by your own request. In the past (and it may well still be happening) if one did a dummy booking the website "held" that request for a certain amount of time. I can still remember looking for Zs one Sunday afternoon for a variety of flights to either MCO or JFK. All that was available were Ds. On Monday the Zs were back with a vengeance! Obviously the world and his wife were cruising that afternoon and doing dummy bookings!

Cruising HL, you spend too much time in San Francisco :0 .

Currently, the VS Web site doesn't let you beyond the availability page in some browsers ... but even if you do end up in this situation where you are 'holding' a reservation, if you call FC at the same time I've found before that logging out of your FC account while talking makes the G reappear right away for the FC staff member you are talking to.

You can call FC and get them to hold a G for 24/48hrs for you. That way you can make your booking online if you so desire and then call back to do the actual upgrade, although I find it much easier just to do the whole booking over the phone.

Thanks.

Just had a fluffy brain last night (and no it was not drink induced!)
