Is it worth it?

Hi all

As you may know, SWMBO and I are off on honeymoon in a few short weeks

Given BA's lovely seating policy, we can't get free seat assignments until check-in. Looking at the seat maps for our flights (below), I'm almost tempted to pay out the £100 to secure one of the 2 seat groups (not so sure about sitting in row 13!). Seat Guru states that Row 15 is bad for galley/lav noise (is the lav roped off for WT+ use only?), but that A&B have "excellent recline"....(oh go on, what's the excellent bit??).

I guess I'm a bit just after some 2nd opinions and experience of the seats please (this'll serve me right for saving a bundle of cash)? Thanks muchly in advance.

As it's your honeymoon I would say to go for it and get the seats - that way you know you've got them and it gives you one less thing to think about in the next few weeks.

The row thirteen thing is interesting - I noticed a couple of lights ago that the VS LHR 747's don't have row thirteen - it wouldn't bother me - if row thirteen are unlucky the rest of plane is going to have one hell of a time as well!

Thanks Tinks - it's true that I wouldn't like to end up in those blocks of 4 (particularly the middle 2).... Just need to balance that with my Yorkshireman's first instinct

LOL - that's a good point. I'm not particularly superstitious, just noticed the row being there when usually it's not (certainly BMI ERJs didn't have it either).

as the above comment has said the row number shouldn't mean anything as if anything happens to row 13 seats in rows 12 and 14 will have an interesting flight.
think of it as row 12A

So, ok, leaving aside the "superstitiousness" (or not) of row 13, does anyone know which are the best of the available pairs as per the above? Am not keen on row 13 anyway, being right in the middle of the block, but am leaning to port (not for the first time ), since that'll be the exit side...however, this leaves (the possibly uncharming) row 15... advice more than welcome!

We've sat in row 13, nice seats, not PE but nice, on the way back, I am guessing 15 J,K, at least your away from the lavs and being a night flight it shouldn't be to busy.

I'd go for 13 A B OB and then take 14 D E or F G for the IB. Would avoid rows 15 or 16 personally.

I sat in 13K out to ATL last month and it was absolutely fine; My first time in WT+ and I actually thought the seat was more spacious than PE. I'd def go for one of the seat pairs though as the blocks of 4 are not great unless you are a group of 4. Watch out for row 12 though, as that is where they put any passengers with infants (in the block of 4).

As to paying out for seat reservations upfront - not sure I would unless the flight was absolutely rammed. Sure you will already have your 24 hour advance reminder for OLCI and if it did go tits up you could ask at the airport if they can do anything. Not sure if it's of interest but I was offered upgrade at the airport from WT+ to NCW for £400 each, shame two of my colleagues beat me to it at the cash desk (it was $500 on the way home - which I did take).

With that said, West coast to LHR upgrade from WT+ to NNNNNCW is $799 if available.

Looks like a mid J 747? Flyertalk BA forum says 11 J&K (night time)and 12 A&B are the pick of the seats. And tips that, as serivce is done by one crew member if you want early service sit on the left.

I can't tell whether these are classed as exit row seats or not. They are the first seats you come to when turning right from door 1, but the door isn't immediately adjacent. IF they are, they are not available for booking until -10 to -4 days before, AND the cost goes up to £50.

Otherwise, it appears the pitch is the same for all other seats in rows 13-16.

In the end, we've booked 13A/B out and 16J/K in - I was really considering 15A/B both ways as there's no-one behind, but in the end our hands were forced somewhat as all the other "couple" seats had gone by the next time we logged into MMB! We shall see how our 1st WTP flight goes and write a TR
