In October 2009 I decided to fly out to the US again to visit some friends, and since I am not attached, I hate to be the third wheel on the wagon so to speak. So I thought I might as well spend my Christmas Day with my favourite airline, and booked myself a flight on December 25 ex-LHR.

The trip started on December 24 with my checking into the Holiday Inn Express at Heathrow. Classic Priority Club service pretty much left me relaxed and comfortable already, but I didn't sleep all that well. The next morning it was off to Terminal 3, where for the first time I got to check into UC.

Service was efficient, and after given instructions, entered the elevator to take me to the dedicated security lane. I was quite frankly underwhelmed by that experience. Yes, so the queues are less... cow pen-like, but you end up in a crush with all the other pax anyway! But no matter... minutes later I was on my way through the shopping mall, oh, sorry, departure lounge to the Clubhouse.

Once there, the lovely lady guarding the entrance was not able to find me on her list. But then, when I explained that my ticket was a Y-class upgraded to UC with miles, she looked again and voilà, there I was.

So, first order of business - breakfast. Sat by the window, where I could watch apron activities, I was served a fantastic Full English, after which I had a call to see the concierge, who inquired whether I would switch seats with someone else, who had their entire family checked-in around me. So, off to row K it was for me.

Final call sounded, we all wandered on down to the gate, got ourselves all settled, and I had the distinct feeling that half the people around me were either VA staff or non-revving crew, because they all chatted to the FA's and each other like they were good friends. Take-off was smooth, and because I hadn't slept all that well the night before, I decided to take a nap first. To put the bed down was easy. Duvet and two pillows were available, so off I went to dreamland.

God only knows how many hours later I woke up with a growling stomach. The FA who wandered up and down the aisles popped over to check if I needed anything, took my order and gave me a time of around 15 minutes for my hot meal. Perfect. Those little salt and pepper pots are just too cute, but me being me didn't dare to sneak them off. :-)

I went back to watching TV, snoozing, and then, much to my delight when I looked out the window, watched Las Vegas pass by below me. This got me interested, so when the rest of the cabin started stirring for the final hour or so of cabin prep for landing, I watched miles upon miles of houses pass by under me again before seeing the Capitol Records building in the smog to my right and knowing that I would be out of the airport in twenty minutes.
