Here's a question? If you were to book using the offer for say 25,000 in economy would you then be able to upgrade the reward T fare for the usual amount of miles. e.g 20,000 to U and 60,000 for G?

I have a feeling this would not be possible, however it might be a way to get discounted reward seats in G.

The website is crashing continually when you try and look for availability. I just spoke to Premier and there seems to be reasonable availabilty for the dates I'm looking at. The question is can I contemplate 11 hrs in economy :0 :0 (lots of Mojitos needing to being quaffed beforehand to assist methinks ): ).

The answer is no. I have just about persuaded MrsPJH that I will never, ever travel in economy on flights over 3 hours (save for emergency). Should she get to hear of your being tempted all my good work will be undone... :D

Juat a quick Q but buying miles does not count as a cash advance with MBMA Amex does it?

As as I would be buying VS miles with my VS amex do I get double miles on my card spend?

:D :D :D The trade off being she adds to her ever increasing bag collection :D :D :D

But tempted I am ): ): ):.£200 circa in taxes is a bargain. Perhaps I can try it as a "social experiment" :0 ?

Please let us know when you plan to carry this 'experiment' out so we can make our dispositions accordingly!

Good for you to take one for the team! I assume it is for an east coast flight. the west coast of America in Y is unthinkable and as for Australia.............. :0

Ooooh no HL. I am actually contemplating Sin City (possibly either direct :0 or via LAX) :D :D .My bank account has had a bit of a financial bashing of late with my recent jollies to Oz and NZ, my little trip on that lovely EK airbus and another nice bag to add to the collection :D .
So no , whilst I will NEVER contemplate Australia in anything less than the pointy bit, I am currently delusional enough to believe I can manage the "mere" 11 hours of purgatory I would be needing to endure.
I'll keep you posted :D.

Comes just a few days after booking a trip to NYC too, for that sort of money (or miles!) would have chosen the west coast I think, always the way haha! At least its more towards the pointy end of the plane though, makes up for it a bit!

No it doesn't, you will still earn miles on your VS AmEx if you buy miles through the VS site.

And if you get it right (like I did last year), I got
-The miles I paid for
-The bonus miles from VS
-The miles from AmEx with which I used to pay
-The bonus miles on AmEx that month

4 lots of miles! - Wish I could say I was clever enough to do this, but it was an accident!

I'm sorry if I sound rude - but the above exchange about Economy is (in my view) something that probably puts people off coming on to this site.

I think speak for plenty of people when I say that PE/UC (paid for with cash) is far beyond my budget, so please when discussing how Economy is "unthinkable" realise that there are people who might want to contribute to this site who are put off by comments as above.

I understand what you are saying, but I do think the tone of the comments would suggest that a lot of it is being said in jest.

I am with you, in so much that we couldn't afford to fly UC with just cash, and it is only down to some excellent advice and tips I have received on here that we have been lucky enough to fly up front.

I know there are a number of members and mods who fly Y, and it is certainly something we welcome threads and discussions on, so please don't be put off.

Well said Neil, but I must say I do have to agree with the post from clarkysntfc, sometimes some of the comments do sound rather like an old boys club where the 'lower classes' are not too welcome! Shame as it such an informative site too.

Thanks for telling us about the bonus miles, might come in handy :)

As for the comments about econ, I agree with Neil that on this thread they seems quite in jest, but I also agree with the others in that the forum, there are a frequent few who don't like new members (whatever class they fly).

They seem nice the first couple times you post, then just make you feel very unwelcome, especially when moderators remove one of your comments saying that's it's irrelevant to the thread, when it was on the same lines as one of the old regulars and their post stays.
This seems such a shame when its obvious that V-Flyer gets lots of publicity from VAA and then it's members upset and put people off.

Ah. :| Though definitely an old boy, sincerest apologies if my banter implied any, shall we say, snobishness (assuming that is a word). In my defence, m'lud, can I say that in my time on this site I have flown, and enjoyed, Economy far more times than any other class and my comments were a dig at my own slightly inflated expectations. Nor have I ever intentionally disrespected another V-Flyer (well, save for Neil :D, and he started it, miss....).

I had booked 2 PE reward tickets using 29500 miles and an MBNA upgrade voucher to JFK for next month.

Seeing the sale I rang FC today on the off chance and said "i don't suppose there is anything you can do now the amount of miles has been reduced for the fare i recently bought"

"of course i can" said the agent, and with that she immeditaly refunded the 9000 miles straight back into my account.

Now that's service y)

Im sorry?? Have I stumbled into an alternate universe?

Fun?...Comfort?....stretching the imagination a bit!

What on earth is fun about being stuffed into a space smaller than a veal crate, surrounded by literally hundreds of other people, and swapping breath for a a good few hours? Impossible to get comfortable, let alone sleep.....and surely the only fun aspect is when you stagger out of the aircraft...

Having poked my nose down into Y on the way home from MIA last month, I can assure you that the only cabin I would associate with those two descriptors is J.

Actually, this post is kind of troubling to me, could you drop me a pm pointing out specifically where a mod has edited your comments, i'm looking in the logs and can't find a post of yours being edited by a mod.

Now to the original post, I am one of those people that flies in all the cabins, yes I do tend to avoid the Y cabin because frankly, the legroom is to damn tight for me, but saying that, I avoid the food in UC as well as it isn't to my taste.

The issue I have long had with VS is their total BS they spew in their ads, there is no way the product can live up to the hype.

With all that being said, west coast flights for 25k I would would probably put up with the discomfort.

Which is exactly what I am doing as of last night :) .The thought of a longish flight in Y doesn't exactly fill me with pleasure but if it's that or not go at all then I'll endure the journey (Mr DL is travelling in PE for fear of being kneecapped). Having CH access and the NZ lounge at LAX will soften the reality of the journey- even for a shortie like me being rammed in and a seat reclining in your face is no fun .
It does seem that humour is lost in a number of posts here these days.
FWIW I think newcomers are welcomed warmly here (as I certainly was some years ago) and that the forum is generally a pleasant and friendly place (have a wander over to some of the FT forums if you want to see a bit of real hostility). If there are specific issues with certain members, a PM to a mod usually resolves the issue pretty quickly :).

As when ever joining a new board, it's best to say hello and then watch from the side lines for a while, why you suss out the tone and style of the place.

I'm too a relative newcomer to this place and on the whole have found it to be very welcoming. I also met up with a longer serving member than myself at the CH LHR when we were flying out on the same day - which was great.

Is there some snobbishness - maybe - but I think it's pretty tongue in cheek. I'm only flying UC because my work pay for it - it would only be a very special occasion to make me splash that amount of cash for a flight (like I did for my honeymoon). Therefore, I'm aware of how lucky I am, and I try to reflect that in my TR and in general behaviour on a flight. (I hope I never act in an 'entitled' way).

The most important thing to remember about this board (IMHO) is that is used a lot by people who fly frequently with Virgin, and by that very nature will therefore include people who fly gold FC and in UC.

I have wondered if non paying members on the board are treated differently to those that are paying members. I did try to join yesterday but am having paypal issues that hopefully will get resolved soon.

Either way, the one thing that can't be replaced that this board offers is it's usefulness and helpfulness. And that is here in spades. And that is why I return, and contribute with TR and any other tips I happen across on my travels.

Long may it continue.

Glad you've felt welcome here. To be honest I don't even notice if members are paid up or not as to me it makes no difference and everyone is welcome to contribute :) .
Interestingly the proportion of members on here who are Au or who fly UC (or both) and are self-funding (ie not on company travel) is actually pretty high which says a lot about loyalty to the brand.
