It seems that someone has take MOL's idea and run with it! More of a seat in a perch position than stand up though.

Italian company with a serious proposal, I can't see how this would be at all comfortable and how you could move around the cabin, I think they would just force people to stay in their seats the entire time.

There was a comment on here the last time this was raised (or it could have been on BBC website) that standing seats are

(a) dependent on regulatory approval and

(b) dependent on an airplane manufacturer (and not an operator) applying and getting such approval

I just cant see this idea working, getting approval or being popular. Somehow though, I am sure it will find its way onto a Ryanair flight near you, which of course will come with somekind of fee attached over and above the "cheap" fare
