I went to Chicago for the first time in July as part of my US holiday and it is now my favourite US city. The shopping, the beach, the cafe culture and the art and architecture. I would recommend the river cruise and also the purple pig on Michigan Avenue for lunch - both excellent.

Wendella Boat Tours are great for the Lake/River cruises - I've used them three times. You can book on their website before you go - and don't worry I've been on one in April!

And BTW - Chicago rocks!! :)

I can also recommend The Blue Man group (although not seen then in Chicago, only Boston, Vegas and NYC)

Be warned though, there is a small amount of audience participation involved and you will need a poncho if you sit in the first couple of rows :)

A colleague at work loves Chicago. Described it as 'the best kept citybreak secret in America'.

Mind you, I also want to go to Cleveland, after 30Rock... ;-)

I lived there for a couple of months when I was much younger, roller blading around the lake on a Sunday morning was magical. I doubt the restaurants I knew are still around but sounds as if the quality and choice continues. You will have a great time and it will be well worth the wait y)

Hmmm I think that would be the cue for people to leave the train (and NOT at a station !)

Something else to consider when visiting Chicago:

The Ledge at Willis (Sears) Tower

A friend just sent me an email about this today as it's just opened as part of the Skydeck Experience at Willis (formally Sears) Tower.

Looks intresting, but I guess not for those who don't like heights :D

I couldn't do that, that would scare the living daylights out of me :0

I don't mind heights but having glass under my feet is a big no no v(
