I get a few bottle of Sam Adams or another beer (still have a nice coffee porter from NYC in Feb!)

Usually save up a list of things to get off Amazon if cheaper than the UK

Nancy Boy bath / skin stuff

Advil - in the liquid capsules

Under Armour

I'd never been asked anywhere until then as I used to bring loads of boxes back for everyone. Thought the lady was joking when she asked for my ID - luckily I had it with me as I was off for a few drinks after my shopping.

My friends bring me a longgggg list of Abercrombie & Fitch picked from the online store, Hollister clothes, a selection of Hershey chocolate products, this particular piña colada mix and Avomine tablets for my step mother. The usual holiday shopping list ;)

Really? You'll get them a hell of a lot cheaper in Italy, maybe half the price of what you'll pay in the US if you know where to go.

As for IDs in pharmacies, you used to be able to buy ephedrine by the truckload, and I used to do so and bring it back to the UK for a friend (she must have been really congested), then they started to clamp down. Not all places do so for the same products, but some products are now ID-restricted in all places (certainly ephedrine even of the "pseudo" variety), and sometimes quantity-limited. Can't imagine why in some cases ... the local Walgreens up on Stanyan here even restricts Claritin, which beats the hell out of me.

Every time we go back to Florence we seem to buy ridiculous amounts of pills. The cost of generic medication here is in inverse proportion to the cost of medical treatment, it seems. My brother's allergy is looked after by the Costco generic version of Claritin or Zyrtec, depending on his current fancy. My parents love their melatonin, and the whole family places orders for industrial quantities of acetaminophen and similar stuff, by the thousand count. I'm waiting for the day when we get stopped, searched and god knows what else. It can't be legal ... :)

throat/cough lozenges as the US ones have a bit more power in them than the UK soothers and the like.

Love to shop in the US!

Always on the hunt for A+F Fierce aftershave, Anything from Coach, Elemis creams and raspberry hot chocolate powder from Walmart :)

Best day to buy electricals and most clothes is black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving - diesel jeans for $30 and under!!

I always seem to do a fair bit of damage on the credit card in the Ralph Lauren outlet shops - they are cheaper than the UK even with the current exchange rate. Ditto Timberland & Tommy Hilfiger outlets too. Then there is the Oakley Vault (I'm a sucker for their stuff).

A stop has to be made at Publix / another supermarket to stock up on Jelly Beans & also Pepperidge Farm Goldfish. (Strange, I know, but I spent my early years in the USA and Goldfish are one of the few things I would eat back then & I still have a taste for them - to the extent that my second carry-on bag [in Upper] is rammed full of Goldfish and safely put in the overhead bin where they won't get crushed).

Then when we get to the airport, it's duty free time for the obligatory stock-up of T10 Gin.

For me:

Carmex (cents in the US, at least a couple of quid here)
Tods (Am with you Slinky)
Oatmeal and Raisin Cookies
Milky Ways
Hersey Kisses
Stationary (much prefer the US ring binder pads of paper)
Urban Outfitters
J Crew ties for work

MUCH cheaper in the US, wider range of styles / fits, and made of better, longer lasting cotton

501's can still be had for $25....

That's for me too. T-shirts too - they are generally so much better quality than in the UK (and I treasure my Zion Canyon "dirt shirt"). One of my major disappointments over the years has been the decline in quality of Old Navy merchandise.

Here's my list:
  • Melatonin
  • Naproxen
  • Diphenhydramine (=Nytol, but wayyy cheaper in bulk)
  • Flents ear plugs (can't sleep without them!)
  • Small cheap bits of technology that cost the earth in the UK
  • Prezzies for the kids & wife
  • Clothes for the kids - much nicer designs, and I'm usually in the US for the New Year sales, so far cheaper too.

Definitely Clinique stuff and other exclusive make up products, particularly Chanel limited editions which we never see in England;
Lindt Lindor packs - much better variety of fillings - why can't we have these in the UK?;
Henri Bendel stuff that you really don't need, but have to have! - their fragranced candles are lovely and so reasonable;
Sees Candies;
and of course Uggs!
