Hi, Im travelling from south wales to LGW and I would like your opinions on which way YOU would take, my sat nav is saying go M4 as far as reading take the A322, M3 then M25, but a search on google maps tells me to go all the way to heathrow and down the M25, there is only minutes in time difference and I have used both routes in the past, Im travelling on a wednesday leaving south wales at 12.30, staying at gatwick hilton for the night.
Which route would you take and why?

As I live in North Wiltshire, I tend to drive M4, A322 M3, M25, M23 to get to LGW.

What the Sat Nav and Google Maps don't tell you is that the section of the M25 between Junction 4B/15 (M4/M25 junction) and Junction 2/12 (M3/M25 junction) can be really slow moving traffic with rolling speed limits, especially from 3pm onwards.

I will recommend going the other route.

as DA says the traffic from the M4 around the M25 to the M3 can be very slow, i would go with your sat nav.

i live in south wilts so usually use the M3 M25 M23

Agree with DA. The A332 through Bracknell cuts a big corner off and misses the worst of the M25 too. Apart from a 200m stretch by the Fire Station, it's all dual carrigeway.

I too live in S Wales and always use the A322/M3/ M25/M23.Not only is it quicker but I like to see how much the Bracknell area has changed (having worked there for 10 years). You also avoid the aggregate speed cameras on the M4 (which we've already got enough of this side of the bridge between the second crossing and the Tredegar Park turn off v( ).

Alternatively... it can be done by train in 3hrs 25 avoiding London. First Great Western from Cardiff Central to Reading, change at Reading on to another First Great Western train to Gatwick. Train station is at the South Terminal which is convenient for the Hilton.
