I normally book a Vigin Holiday once a year and get my Virgin Atlantic reference at the time of booking and book my seats as soon as possible. However next year I have booked for New York (Heathrow to JFK) for May 21st but when I try to get my Virgin Atlantic reference I keep getting told that it will not get ticketed until a few weeks before and so no reference is available and so I can't get to look at the seat plan. Anyone know why this is different to normal?

This seems to be the new way that a few travel agents are doing it now, although I didn't realise VH also now did it like this.

Have you tried accessing the manage my booking section on the VS site and inputting all your VH details? I know that you can sometimes bypass not having your VS PNR number yet.

I'd keep on to VH again; sounds harsh but they don't always know as much as you'd expect. You should get to someone experienced eventually. I've had to really coax it out of them before, I guess staff turnover is high? Certainly they aren't as good as the marketing suggests.

I have same problem, so just went on the VH site and got an e-mail address for 'question on my holiday'. Sent asking for my locator number for VS. Just got a 'Failure notice' back saying this e-mail address no longer exists ! Sign of things to come?

I got this reply from VH:-

'Thank you for your recent email.

Having checked with our flight team they have advised that your booking will be ticketed approximately 4 weeks prior to your departure date. Regrettably we cannot issue your tickets at this stage due to the contract we hold on this occasion. '

I then rang the frequent flying club who manually booked our seats but I am still annoyed I cannot get on and check the seats for myself. This is the first time I have not been able to get on to the seat plans so it is a bit strange.

I rang VH yesterday and was told I could have my VS locator number after the 8th November (i.e. 11 months before we fly)- will ring them again then and see what they say !

That is quite understandable. VS only release inventory 11 months in advance, so it would be impossible to do this for VH passengers any sooner

My booking is for May 2011 so typcially the flight locator should be available. Instead I have been told it won't be available until a few weeks before the flight, but no one can give me a reason why this flight (to New York) is different to all other Virgin Holidays I have booked.

What happened in previous years is no guide / guarentee of what will happen in future years. Obviously a chnage in policy at VH that could have been explained better.
