I'm looking to book a hotel in Boston and have found a deal on the Virgin website that looks almost too good to be true - through Virgin the hotel is £300, on the hotel's own website it works out at over £600 and LastMinute is over £1000!

Is there anything I should be wary of here when booking through Virgin (additional charges when at the hotel, getting a lower standard room, not guaranteed room type etc)? The only difference I can see is that with Virgin there's no option to select bed type.

I want to book straight away but I've always believed that if something seems to good to be true, if usually is!

I've never booked a hotel through Virgin before and usually prefer to book directly with the hotel so any advice would be appreciated.

I have just (Thursday) booked a hotel through the VS Site myself which was considerably cheaper than any other website I looked at (including the hotels) though I did have some other issues on their booking process though see here here.

The confirmation emails came through within seconds - including the actual voucher to present at check-in.

It simply says 'standard' room but even the standard rooms at 'my' hotel are pretty good.

VS obviously have some inmventory they want to sell ot got some good deals themselves!

It's linked via walkways. I stayed there on my last trip to Boston. I booked via Priceline (and got upgraded to a corner suite with great river views on arrival :D ).
Nice enough hotel - there's a bar across the street with the most amazing jukebox.

It's a good hotel uses really good beds like all of the other Sheraton hotels. The mall it's connected to has a T station so getting downtown is easy, although it's a nice walk. Ask the hotel for a high room overlooking the river; amazing views.
. VH are fine for hotel only bookings, often good prices plus you get double miles on the VA AMEX

A reason is that often Expedia and Lastminute in some cases will just sell direct from the hotels own systems - not sure why there is a difference of £400, they normally include taxes whereas US hotel websites add them as extras.

Virgin will for sure bring a lot of business to Boston so looks like they have been savvy in negotiating a contract rate.

Well, I've booked it and received the accommodation voucher so all looking good!

I've realised that the first night there is the day of the Boston marathon which seems to have pushed prices up across the city - maybe Virgin haven't adjusted their prices to take into account the increased demand whereas all others have? Either way, I'm extremely happy with the rate I've got and cannot wait to go now!

Thanks for all your advice.

Am also going to be in Boston for 2 nights in November - will have to look into that. If I can get a good hotel with a significant saving, work will be pleased!

Rich - just be careful on the VS site though.

Hotels rated by 'ticks' stay within VS and get double miles but hotels rated by 'stars' get sent to VS branged pages on octopus travel where (a) price mysteriously increases and (b) you dont get bonus double FC miles as its not the 'right' website for that.

There are at least 3 hotels that are double listed too!

When are you there? Maybe our paths will cross and always nice to meet a fellow v-flyer !

All good tips and will bear in mind. Thank you.

At the moment I'm due to be there 9th - 11th Nov, but that might change. Work want me to go 10th - 12th which would delay my trip home by a day, and when you've been away for over three weeks, that one extra day seems an awful lot...! Either way, will be there roughly 9th - 12th Nov!
