I was just booking a flight from NYC to LHR, alas in Economy, for a quick November trip - a long weekend basically. I was paying personally so thought I'd save the pennies.

The Economy was great value at $625 all in, but Upgrade to Upper was just $400 on outward and $525 on return. I took both. Total $1550 for an UC ticket - thats under 1000 pounds! Quite a bargain.

It appears you don't get the full UC miles, but only the EC ones (is this right?) You do get the full tier points, though I'm not needing those anymore this year, as my renewal target was hit months ago.

Anyone know if these offers are tailored to specific passengers? I'm a regular AU flyer, mostly in UC, (just came back on VS9 last night in fact) but this was a personal trip on "my dollar" so I was going to slum it. However this was just too tempting: $900 to postpone the reality check of going EC again, seemed very worthwhile

:)

update:

I just cross checked on Orbitz, and the exact same flights are also $1550 there - so its not some snafu in the website - it seems that is Virgins price for UC the weekend I am travelling. A bargain, methinks, and much better to have got it from VS direct, than Orbitz.

Then I cross checked booking UC directly in the VS website booking, and its the same price $1550 (final price including taxes). wow - amazing discount for Upper Class in the off-season.

PE is only $380 less than UC, so I can't see anyone taking that option, if they know the full picture.

Blimy ! that is a bargain and one (sadly) not available to us doing the journey in reverse!

I just tried a dummy booking for NYC-LHR return without logging into my FC account and it was offereing single upgrades but not for both legs (but that was just the flight selection I made, other combinations might have been different)

I think you get the 'full' miles rather than just the econ ones as the upgrade is part of the initial booking and not done after but ISTBC on that.

Good on you for finding such a great price !

yes, sadly VS have to try harder for US based PAX, as they are hard to winkle out of their (dreadful) USA airlines, and frequent flyer programs.

Quite why anyone would want to fly Delta or United or American when they can be on VS or BA is beyond me.

still under 1000 quid for a return in UC is great!

in fact on similar flights Thanksgiving weekend in UC is about 2200 pounds/ $3500, assuming you stay the required Saturday night. That's not $7000, but still more than double the $1550 you pay from the US. strange.

I suppose there are many more Americans in UK who will fly back to US for Thanksgiving, so VS can get that price. Not many people going the other way on this particular holiday!
