Being a born worrier,I left Cape Coral early so we had hours to drive to MCO. No traffic hold ups, no car break downs so we dropped off our Alamo car with a sense of achievement. We arrived before check in opened ( huge relief) and were rather perplexed that the only flight showing above the desks said VS28 to EWR! However, this was soon rectified when check in opened at 1.20pm. We only had one couple in front of us - the rest of the area was total bedlam I have to say. Unfortunately the one couple had some problem & we were not called over to a vigilant guy at a PE desk until 1.40pm... many apologies followed. We were told of a 45 mins delay to our flight. That didn't stop me heading off to security - I can never relax until I am airside.
Security was very quiet! Now I could relax in the lounge ... for a rather long time! Just as the TV was showing the capsule to rescue the Chilean miners being checked, we were called ,so went down to Gate 81. A piercing noise greeted us. Someone had activated a door alarm & no one had the key to turn it off. This meant we couldn't hear any announcements & the sound started to get to people. The staff left their desk to come & shout to groups that there was a further delay. After about 20 mins a man appeared with the key to turn off the alarm & was greeted by cheers & applause ( some a little derisive).
Upper Class were called to board at 8pm & with my champagne came the rather disturbing news that there was " a problem with the water on board." What this meant was they could not serve us tea or coffee for the flight - everyone on board was given bottled water to take to the toilets for hand washing. (The tap had been taped up ). I had a Marie Antoinette moment on being told we couldn't drink tea or coffee ... " Well let them drink wine ..." but it is amazing how much one suddenly yearns for the very thing that is unavailable. Consequently, I spent a part of the night trying to work out ways to get a cup of coffee using cold bottled water & granules which wouldn't dissolve. I suppose they didn't have enough milk on board to offer latte.
We took off about 8.55pm.
The grilled prawns were tasty but the braised ribs were rather dry ( more liquid problems !). I managed some sleep but then the full horror hit me . No morning coffee with my breakfast.
A blueberry muffin with water is just not the same.
We had flown at 39,000 ft & over 620mph for a goood part of the flight so made up some time & landed 9.20am. The staff thanked everyone for their tolerance over the water situation. We had a delightful & friendly crew in UC.
Instead of the usual stampede to the toilets on leaving the aircraft there was one mass of elbowing to get to Costa Coffee.
Phew. Caffeine in my system again !
I still cannot understand the water problem - and I hope it never happens again. We needed a reverse miracle I've decided. Changing the wine into water ....
Roll on my next trip.

Great TR - I applaud your tolerance of the situation, being a caffeine addict I would have become incredibly bitter, twisted and possibly even violent by the end of the flight! I hope they didn't run out of champagne as well?!!

Great TR Hiljil, thank you.

I cannot do without water and flying is dehydrating so EEK - poor you.

Well your trepidation seemed to be marginally founded :0 :0

Held up at Check in, delayed flight, alarms and to cap it all NO WATER - let's hope your next flight goes much more smoothly

Thanks for such an engaging TR y)
