I'm travelling 30th Oct from DUB with British Midlands (Business) to LHR to make our connecting Virgin flight VS023 (UC) to LAX - same flight booking reference. I'm totally confused about the baggage allowance, will British Midlands honour the luggage allowance we have on Virgin, this query also applies to our return flight. We plan to hopefully check our bags straight through to LAX outward and DUB on return. I would really appreciate assistance from some seasoned V Flyer member.
If you are on the same booking then the flight with the highest allowance applies to all, in this case VS UC to LAX applies on your DUB-LHR legs too.
There's a plane at JFK, to fly you back from far away
all those dark and frantic transatlantic miles

Is that correct? The VS site, gives this info on the baggage allowance page
Please note, Virgin Atlantic baggage allowances are not applicable on partner airline/codeshare and connecting flights. Therefore, if you are booked on one of these flights, please check the baggage allowance with the operating airline.
Thank you, unfortunately it's still confusing and I have checked British Midlands web site and I couldn't find mention about connecting onwards to a long haul flight, but certainly their allowance is smaller than VS. I did expect that allowance on longer leg would apply. But I do appreciate that you have taken time to help me with this query.
We did it recently but with Flybe flights and I rang them to double check. They said because it was all booked through Virgin then they would honour the VS allowance. We checked ours straight through to ABZ from UVF no probs.
Might be worth just giving them a ring to be sure.

When I flew with BD & VS a couple of weeks ago (DUB-LHR-HKG then vice-versa), BD accommodated the baggage allowance of VS (but then for the past 10 years, they have done so from my observation, whenever I flew with BD&VS together.)
So it should be fine.
You could always call BD Reservations to make sure but more than likely they will state that you have VS baggage allowance all the way through, assuming your ETKT is a VS ETKT.

BD have no obligation to carry the same luggage allowance as Virgin but in reality they usually do.
This is one of the most annoying parts for us, especially when there is a break in the journey and then a customer might have to suddenly halve the amount of luggage they carry for 1 flight.

Move to the red side...
Thank you all most sincerely, I have been unsuccessful getting to speak to somebody in British Midlands, but i will make it priority now. I do feel a little easier. Much appreciate replies.
I wish to thank all members for assisting me with my query in relation to luggage allowance. I did manage eventually to a speak to BD and they confirmed that they would honour my Virgin allowance. I'm much relieved and grateful.
