Hi there,

Been a while since I have posted but am looking at booking UC as a surprise mini Honeymoon just after my Wedding in March, with a trip to NY.

Looking at the current prices, is there normally a sale at this time of year that I should wait for, or will I have the best prices displayed now on the Virgin site?

No one can tell when a sale will come along, and sale prices haven't been as good this year as previous years, mostly due to BA charging more and VS matching.

That said, boxing day is probably a good bet for a sale, or soon after for a premium one.

You of course risk the dates you want selling out if you hold on though, it's always a gamble!

Just noticed something interesting. Been comparing BA/VS flight prices to Orlando, in March/April and April/May, for UC with VS and Business with BA. Prices have been almost identical, but just looked at the BA site and their pirces have dropped. They're now showing a return for £1854, while VS is still at £2148 return. A saving of just under £300, by my calculation.

An admin error on BA, or maybe the start of a bit of healthy competition???

I mentioned a few weeks ago about the increasing price of upper to MCO, maybe VS where/are trying for more margin ?|

£1800ish is what the price has been for this year so hopefully VS might come back down and match BA and not the other way round ;)

I hope so - it's not more than a couple of days since I last did the comparison. I always thought VS kept a close eye on what their competitors were charging, but who knows? I need to be booking soon, and really would prefer not to use BA, but heck, it's not a small difference!

What fare code are the VS flights in? Is it just because all the Z's have gone and it is quoting R's now?

Others are reporting BA prices are dropping as of today in PE and CW, suggesting an unadvertised sale, or they are about to announce one. VS usually follow suit, but if not, the dark side isn't that bad.

That's true, it isn't that bad, in fact, it's been fine on the few times I've travelled with BA. Biggest 2 downsides are no tier points/airmiles (of course) - but also there's always the uncertainty of industrial action with BA...Who needs that when you're supposed to be happily anticipating a holiday?!

Sorry, I lied, they are there. I was looking for April to MCO and that month doesn't seem to apply to there. Which is where I kind of came in - BA showing £1854 return to Orlando for that month and May... £2148 VS.... mmmmm is it possible they'll be loaded later? They must realise BA is floating that price????

Found some bargain upgrade prices from PE to Upper for next year's trip to MBJ. Have paid £700 to upgrade for the better half & I on the return leg (VS website was showing it to be this much just for one of us a couple of days ago!!!) and will wait to see if some miles upgrades become available nearer the time for the outbound (as recommended by the VERY helpful staff on the FC & UC phone lines). Not too bothered if none come up because PE will still be more than adequate for a daytime flight.

That was spooky - sale the following day from my post!!

well in the end I have booked PE both ways, outbound Heathrow to Newark, inbound JFK to Heathrow.

If I can afford at a closer date, I will upgrade the outbound flights.

I am imagining that the plane will be the 340-600 out of LHR, so would seats 18 A&C be the best in PE as at the front?

Thanks for all your help

You will see that you cannot re-request the 18 seats, they are allocated on check-in, supposedly, often the check-in staff say they can't for 'mysterious' reasons.

Just grabbed one of these special offers to MCO for March 2011 y)

~£1300 for a round trip in Upper seems like a good deal to me, although from LGW as MAN>MCO flights are £200 more for some reason ?|

BTW, BA wanting £1855 for Club on the same dates :w

I see that the Virgin website now offers

Economy, Premium Economy, Upper Class (lowest and flexible in each) PLUS Business Class. Which never has availability. Perhaps some enhancements coming?

What's the weather like in Feb/March? Obviously no humidity, but temp-wise?
