Having not paid attention to the winter cricket schedule when planning my forthcoming trip I find myself in SF when the first Ashes test starts. Does anybody know if there are any bars in the area that are likely to be showing cricket? I've had a root around the internet and writen to a few but without much luck - am assuming the reply I got asking me what cricket was was toung in cheek....

IIRC there is a sprots bar on the street between Union Square and the Cable Car turn-round but can't remember what it is called. Its on the left as you walk up the hill.

Won't it also depend what time the match is on? If it clashes with a 'normal' US sport you have no chance !

As it happens I will be in London for the first Ashes test ...

It will be difficult to find one that will show it in the city, as the start time will be about 6pm in the afternoon, going through the evening. It's Thanksgiving weekend, so you have sports locally pretty much around the clock, especially US Football. Tricky one. I'd lay a bet on an Indian cafe in Fremont if anyone is going to show it :)

In SF the top football hangouts are Kezar and Mad Dog in the Fog, the first on Stanyan, the second on Haight Street in the Lower Haight - both owned by a Brit. It's a long shot that they will have cricket on (TBH I haven't checked, tho' Kezar is round the corner), but you never know ... It's just not that popular a thing to put on a TV screen in a US bar, even when it's owner by a Brit called Cyril :)

PM me and remind me if you really want to know, I'll ask them next time I go in there. Maybe they can just have one screen with it showing ...

I haven't used them but there are cricket streaming sites that could fulfil your needs if you have a good wireless connection in your hotel

Thanks for the suggestions.

I thought it might be a long shot. And as MarkedMan says totally the wrong time to want to watch anything non american sportswise.

All I need to do then is 'persaude' Sky Player that my laptop is actually in the UK and not SF... :w

Have heard mention of something called sling box but as I don't have sky I have no idea if it will work for you or what it would cost.

It is on the list of future purchases but being between addresses at the moment I don't actually have a physical signal to attach it to. But then again I get better 'reception' on my laptop than I ever did through my dish.
