After an excellent kite festival in Cape Town and a week of touring the Garden Route returned to the airport and dropped the hire car off. Not sure how the petrol attendants do it but they filled the car some 300 km from the airport and it was still full when we arrived (at least had not moved from the full position).

One thing we had done was to leave a large kite bag at Cape Town airport as we did not need to carry it around on our road trip. Left it at the left luggage and confirmed that they would be open when we got back. Returned to find darkness!! No left luggage where we had left it. Minor panic followed by asking the local Police who pointed out the new location. A sign on the door would have been useful!

Down to the gates for the bus out to the plane – no room on the stand due to a delayed Malaysian flight. Interestingly they mixed passengers from UC, PE and Y on the bus (for which I heard some ‘interesting’ comments from the UC passengers). I put this down to the very light load on the flight.

As we were bussing out to the plane we heard that the BA flight due to leave earlier had been offloaded due to a fuel leak and they still had no ETD.

Flight almost empty with just 9 people in the PE cabin and the back end looked very empty as well – so much so that people could spread out and grab four seats for a flat bed. Wished I had saved the money for the PE seats and taken this chance – oh well, if it had been busy would not have complained.

Was told by the crew that we could move to other seats as it was empty, not a problem and managed to snag a couple with nice head rest area, but then despite an almost empty cabin another person decided to grab the seat in front and settle back – totally unnecessary as there were plenty of places that would not have affected anyone else.

Food OK, then lights out. The one crew member doing the cabin did the food round then that was it – never saw them again. Other crew did drinks rounds through the flight. We had both Y passengers and UC passengers using the toilets in the PE area – obviously not enough available for the appropriate cabin.

Landed on time, quick exit through arrivals and bags out quickly.
