Hi all - just wondering if you might be able to help me 'translate' the tier thresholds on the HH programme.

Hilton HHonors Silver VIP - 4 stays or 10 nights
Hilton HHonors Gold VIP - 16 stays, 36 nights, or 60,000 base points
Hilton HHonors Diamond VIP - 28 stays, 60 nights, or 100,000 base points

My new role at work involves spending 3/4 nights (usually a 1 night stay) a month away, and I've chosen to stick to the Hilton hotel. Basically I'm trying to understand how I qualify for the higher tiers? I've done 4 nights (3 separate stays) so far.

Does this mean I'll be silver on my next 1 night trip? Then I'll need 12 more stays to get gold before 2010 year end?

I'm also doing 'double dip' to get VS miles as well as HH points.

Thanks, James!

You got it right - it's really only valuable when you reach Gold (free WiFi, room upgrades, exec lounge etc.) but do look for special offers, Hilton does a lot of this and I got fast tracked to Gold this year for example!

As Slinky says, keep an eye out for special offers...such as
this one. 2x base points during the week and 4x if the stay includes a Sunday.

Though the amenities at Hiltons vary a good bit (you'll generally only find Exec lounges at new-ish builds, for example) I've found the "value" of the scheme to be quite high as if there's standard room availabilty, you can secure a room using points. My points have provided accommodation on a good few city breaks in the last few years, and "double dipping" one UCS return...

And if you try to book two nights as two seperate bookings (to invoke two 'stays' instead of 2 nights) they'll usually soon spot that and join the bookings together.

Check your Hiltona ccount as it will calculate your stays and nights. I calculate you at 3 nights not 3 stays?

Indeed they will...

Slightly o/t but one other twist I found with conjoined bookings if double dipping for airmiles.

"If any portion of a stay is paid with points the entire stay is considered a reward stay for which miles are not awarded."

I found this recently when I took three paid nights followed by one "points" night. I pointed out my "longstanding loyalty to the brand" and got the miles reinstated, but it's something to watch out for.

Must admit, following receiving the AMEX Platunum, I'd expected HHonors Gold as that's what the blurb said but ended up with Diamond....figured this was a new thing? HH Diamond came in very handy for a stay in London last weekend at the Waldorf Hilton y)

From memory it was similar with Radisson's Goldpointsplus scheme...the AMEX blurb said Silver but I ended up with Gold...
