Oh dear! I managed to create a bit of a kerfuffle last night on board EI724 which delayed the flight slightly 
I arrived at Cork airport for my BA codeshare flight not having checked in on-line. The whole procedure was fine although I was a tad miffed that I had to collect my bags again at LHR even though I had a through ticket for this morning's flight. The check-in guy very kindly unblocked a seat in rows 1-5 and allocated seat 2A and handed me my boarding pass with 2A in large letters on it. I'm afraid that's all I saw. If I had examined it in more detail I would have prevented the later confusion.
Fast forward to boarding. A guy ahead of me went through the gate but as he got on the escalator he was called back but he did not hear and blithely went on his way. As I got to the gate one of the agents said that she needed to sort out that passenger and headed down to the door. In the meantime I presented my boarding card and photo ID and was waved through. However once near the door to exit on to the tarmac we were halted and I could hear some of the interchange on the walkie-talkies, specifically with regard to 2 Alpha! So who was in 2 Alpha? Yup! Li'l ole me! Nothing further happened and I was on board and in my seat. The rest of the passengers boarded and there was the usual head count and we seemed ready to go. Not so! "Will passenger honey lamb please make itself known to the cabin crew?" I did and they asked for my boarding card which I duly fished out. She looked at it and then ask it I was Robert Frank XXXXXX? The passengers round me looked at her incredulously. Did I look like a Robert Frank? For those of you who have never met me, I do not have cropped hair nor do I dress mannishly and most importantly I am generously endowed with mammary glands!!
) I was asked if I should be in 22D and I was quite clear that this was where I was sitting and I was not budging. Finally the call went out for Robert Frank who identified himself. Obviously some corrections needed to be made to the log but once that was done we were on our way.
I blame the check-in guy! And the guy at the gate who allowed someone with a different name on the passport to the boarding card. Oh and the same check-in guy managed to allocate a husband seat 2C and his wife 3A in an almost empty aircraft!
