...Christmas present ideas, please, such as might fit comfortably and discreetly within a 24Kg baggage allowance.

Stuck for what to get Mrs V; can't afford to spend a fortune (Cape Town ain't going to be cheap) and also can't take anything heavy and/or bulky. Short of a book token, I'm stumped...

Not sure what "moderate" cost is as it's all relative. But as variation on the book token the Kindle is just over £100 on Amazon and you could load it with a book or two. I wouldn't put pressies in the checked bags though.

Did you book connecting flights with BA in the end? I think their allowance is 23kg not 24kg (BMI an underwhelming 20kg)

A nice small piece of jewellery that you can carry in your hand luggage (earings/bracelet perhaps?).There's a nice Tiffany store in T3 :D and also Jo Malone? (I wouldn't be disappointed with a gift from either :) )

A pre-booked Spa thingy in CPT?
I seem to remember CPT being good value, and some fantastic things for presents and likely more orginal than internet buys in T'Yorkshire.

Remember there is a Diamond Factory worthy of a visit in centre of CPT... :w |:)

Spa idea sounds nice :) . FWIW I found the diamond prices comparable to the UK and no bargain. I have to say I didn't fnd the shopping there particularly good (apart from wine :D :D ).

The ladies love Jo Malone - I was very popular when I brought home the mini-pack of six bought onboard a VS plane.

Why dose she need a pressy?

Surely you are pressy enough? (though 24kg might be a tad optimistic!)

(sorry whilst I :$ up at how corny that was !)

Thanks chaps. Spa idea is good for brownie points, but won't prove particularly 'unwrappable' for Christmas Day. And whilst I've been foolish enough to buy Mrs V trinkets in turquoise boxes in previous years, that doesn't fall into the 'moderate' bracket this Christmas. Blame it on my unerring taste for expensive hotels.

Kindle sounds like a plan, though. Light and relatively easy to hide. Think that may well work.

However, you're quite right, tonty. Having me as her ever-doting husband is, as they say, the gift that just keeps on giving. (Your Christmas box is in the post, old boy...).
