Does anyone have any information on whether VS10 from JFK to LHR is going to take off this evening as I'm getting conflicting information from Virgin. I had a text and email yesterday evening saying it was cancelled, but flight status is showing it taking off at 23.30 tonight and I've managed to check on online. I've tried ringing the Virgin helpline but all get is an engaged tone.

By the time the 10 is due to leave, there should be a decision on whether Heathrow will be open.

All I can suggest is to keep trying the phone but go to JFK to check-in as normal. Flight Status says it's operating.

Yes, but the OP is flying out of JFK tonight.

Looks like the aircraft operating the VS10 is positioning out to JFK this evening from Stansted, so that bit at last shouldn't be affected by the heathrow closure!

That would make sense as I've just had a text from Virgin saying that VS10 has been reinstated. Christmas isn't cancelled after all! Thanks for all the replies.

According to the VS iPhone app the VS109 is due to leave STN at 19:00 and arrive at JFK 21:30.

The VS10 is then due to depart JFK at 22:45 and arrive at LHR tomorrow at 11:35

Another text and email from Virgin saying VS10 is again cancelled and there is limited availabity until after 23rd. However flight status is saying flight is going at 17.00 on Monday. Impossible to get through to the helpline so not really sure where I stand. Suffice to say that Christmas still might be cancelled.

If they will let you transfer, get yourself down to Orlando and jetblue and fly out that way. Currently availability on all Orlando flights between now and Christmas Eve.

Unfortunately its seems impossible to get through to the Virgin helpline to be able to change a flight.

Oh and yesterday's VS10 is now cancelled again according to the additional information section on flight status. I make that the 3rd cancellation of this flight. I know its a fluid situation but the lack of reliable information from Virgin is very frustrating.

If you have the miles, there are seats in Premium and Economy on all dates up to the 25th.

Take the refund and book the Orlando flight and then take it up with Virgin. Will at least get you home and saves Virgin paying for a hotel.

I'm on the Miami flight on the 23rd and they have just cancelled the flight tomorrow (I think because the 23rd flight is empty and they are moving please across).

If they cancel the Miami flight on the 23rd then the Orlando flights will fill up VERY quickly

Just to update this story. I finally managed to make contact with the Virgin helpline yesterday. A very helpful Welsh chap then arranged to put me on this evening's VS04. 6 hours later I get a text saying this flight has been cancelled.

More wasted hours and I was told by an another agent that the first flight I could be put on would go on 27th Dec! Hello Christmas day was 25th last time I checked. After I came off the phone I checked on the website and see tickets are on general sale on 26th in all cabins, so it's strange the first availability to repatriate me is 27th. The agent also said that there was no availability on any alternative carrier for today.

I finally lost patience with Virgin and booked a business class flight this this evening with Kuwait Airways (desperate times call for desperate measures) for £700.00 under the independent travel option (which the above agent said was not possible?. I then contacted the helpline again and asked for the original PE fare to be cancelled and refunded and make them aware I will claiming the additional £400, which should cover the cost of Kuwait Airways flight. As to whether I live to make a claim I'll know in about 12 hours!
