We are flying from LGW to HAV on VS064 in April and was wondering what the PE seating was like as we are thinking of upgrading I did take a look at the trip report index but the last entry was in 2008.
Some websites say virgin have upgraded the seating but only on LHR fights and the seating from LGW was still the old type which is not supposed to be that good

Does anyone have an up to date report on the stating on this flight

Thanks

It all depends on which aircraft you're on, as some of the LHR fleet (new seating) have been helping out at LGW recently.

Personally I like the PE seats on the LGW fleet and actually prefer them to the new purple leather ones... They're comfy and have a good level of recline on them.

If you decide to stay in Economy and are travelling as a couple i'd recommend the sets of 2 seats either side at the back of the plane, as there's a bit more space there where the plane tapers off.

If you're thinking of upgrading then try and select seats in the bubble... It's all down to whether you feel the upgrade cost is resonable, if you feel it is, then go for it!

The comfort of the old seats all comes down to whoever is sitting in them. I sat in one of the old style seats not so long ago and found them to be very uncomfortable - I much prefer the new purple leather PE seats.

Though I like the purple leather seats of the LHR fleet, experiencing PE in the bubble of the LGW fleet has much to commend it.

Enjoy Havana when the time comes.

Thanks for the feed back!

They are asking for £1000 to upgrade 2pax in both directions does that sound a fair price?

It's probably about right, yes. It just comes down to whether you think it's worth that for a little more comfort.
If you think it is then go for it. If not, look at buying a couple of emergency exit seats in Y, they usually sell them at the airport for about £50...

my personal thoughts are if you cant guarantee a PE in the bubble it isnt worth the extra. i would then go with the extra legroom or exit row seats for far less.

the PE downstairs on a 744 are IMO pretty crap and not worth that much extra.

as for a 346 - different call, perosnally I find the new seats a bit uncomfortable (the head rests hurt my neck) -then it becomes down to personal choice

Me and Mrs Harps are flying out to Havana on 19th Jan in PE. So I will post a trip report when we get back.

In addition, we have used Virgin since 2006. Our first flight was economy since then we have always flown PE. I prefer the PE seat & cabin. Yes I am more in favour of the leather LHR seat but I don't mind the old LGW big red material seat.

Maybe I have been lucky but we have always been in the bubble, had a comfy seat and the Entertainment system has worked. All PE whatever the seat type uses glasses, proper plates and metal cutlery, the extra CC for the cabin helps the experience.

The one disadvantage is that if you are on a LGW plane with seat config 1 you get NOVA entertainment system (VGAL, VLIP,VROM, VROS, VROY). I think this is much worse than the ODYSSEY you get on seat config 2 (VAST, VXLG, VTOP) as NOVA is one movie channel with a rolling programme. ODYSSEY has 10 movie channels.

With 12 days to go, looking forward to a bit of winter sun.

That isn't quite correct. Whilst Nova has less channels that Odyseey, it has more than 1 movie channel, but both are systems are on a cycle rather than AVOD.
