Will VS not being in a formal alliance such as Sky Team, Star Alliance or One World (can't see that ever happening) have a detrimental effect on its long term future?

I'd be interested to hear your thoughts.

define long term - as in they've been going for a couple of decades without any readily apparent side effects? Plenty of aborted threads about this on Flyertalk...

was one on here too quite recently. Think is followed the news that SRB had asked a Merchant Bank to look at some issues.

There are 3 ways Virgin Atlantic Airways can go.

The AS route of partnering with everyone.

They could join an alliance.

Or they could actually focus on being a premium airline with links to other airlines, this was the route they were going down for a while, however IMHO they are no longer a premium airline, so an alliance looks like the best bet for them.
