Hello,

1. Anybody know why this flight has been cancelled?

2. I've used points to get an Upper Class on this flight and now stuck till the next day with another nights hotel bill etc. to find. They've offered no comfy words simply telling me on the phone they can refund my fare if I want to find another way home..(Which clearly I can't at this stage, at least not in any comparable comfort..)

Any advice or input on the above apart from my being **** out of luck this time around!

Hi Martin

I don't know why your flight has been cancelled, I would suspect light loads and therefore consolidation of 2 flights.

But, as you have been given more than 2 weeks notice you are out of luck with any assistance from Virgin. This is the webpage which sets out their responsibilities.

Note in particular "...Neither will compensation, or other assistance e.g meals, refreshments or hotel accommodation etc be offered if we advised passengers or their travel agents and tour operators at least 2 weeks before departure date."

I think you will need to look to your travel insurance.

Sorry - edited to say you could try to ask them to put you on another carrier's flight that day (2nd) - I see AA have a flight going out at around the same time. But IF they do they will only get you a seat in coach - the terms for this are set out in the T&Cs of Flying Club.

Regards
R3dV

This might help re cancellation

Though as you have been given the right amount of notice there is not a lot you can do in terms of compensation as they have offered you a flight the next day

As an alternative why not either fly or take the train up to NYC and fly out on your original date?

Which is a great idea - you could do an Amtrak one way to Newark and get the VS2 - depending on what is on offer, but since they cancelled you, they are likely to try to be flexible if there's space on any of the New York flights ...

Not entirely suprising given the state of the ecoonomy and looming massive job cuts - I guess aviation and holidays will be a major casuality as people cut their cloth accordingly; that certainly seems to be the current office chat by the water cooler

Well if that's all then things are looking up, compare to last year.

Well happy ending, kind of. I've shifted both outgoing and return now and they waived Saturday night stay restrictions as they'd made the original change so it works for me - probably better than before.
