Quickly- our flight home tonight on the VS10 has been cancelled by VS due to the snow. We have been re- booked onto the VS04 tomorrow. Have rung Premier to see where we stand re hotel etc- have been told to find a hotel ourselves -3 star and reasonable cost (this is Manhatten :0 )but can't get a definitive as to what reasonable is. Dinner is a reasonable cost main (again whatever reasonable is)
What am I covered for? I apparently can't claim cost of transportation to another hotel (if I can find one that is). I'm now virtually out of essential things (like cash!!) and need to be out of this hotel room in an hour (it's overbooked for tonight so no chance of staying here).
Help.

Can't help with hotel suggestions, but last time we were delayed 24 hours, phoned Amex Plat who let me charge upto £200 per day as part of their insurance.

Not much help, but might get you out of a pickle

When I was trapped in Manhattan by the ash cloud VS said to claim up to $150 per night (not much for Manahattan) but they actually paid me ~$250 per night plus as I recall ~$30 for each evening meal. I'm not sure if the same rules will apply.

Good Luck - I hope it works out OK

If you are still online DL - there is a cheap but very clean and functional hotel on West 32nd Street - The New York Manhattan (NYMA) which has available rooms at $119 plus taxes. I just checked online. I have stayed there a couple of times and it's fine for a night or two. Also in includes basic breakfast and wifi. It is right in Korea town. 6 West 32nd Street between 5th and Broadway.

As holiday inns are supposed to be 3* internationally. I would stay there and eat from their in house menu. To me that is very "resonable"

Sorry to hear about your flight getting cancelled!

Having looked at the info on the VS website, if it was me - I would define "Reasonable" as a 3*. I'd log onto hotels.com or similar, select 3* hotels in the area and perhaps screen print to show you've not taken the most expensive.

I'm sure you have seen the following, but just encase:

http://www.virgin-atlantic.com/en/gb/customerrelations/severeweatherdisruption.jsp

Our assessment of 'reasonable' is based upon the following principles:

Hotel accommodation - Is based on a minimum of two people sharing one room in a mid range hotel (with the exception of passengers travelling alone on a single reservation).

Meals and refreshments - Include breakfast (if it has not been included in hotel offering) followed by one snack and one main meal per person per day, plus approximately six regular soft drinks or beverages per person per day.

Transport to and from the airport and hotel - Using public transport

Thanks everybody. It's has become blizzard like here with about a foot of snow in the last 4 hours. I can't see us getting out topmorrow either at this rate.
We've managed to stay where we were -I had made a reservation at the Intercontinental in desperation, as my options were becoming very limited (due to lots of flights being cancelled)- but as we about to leave the hotel management sorted us out saving the hassle of decamping in taxis etc etc.
Lets see what the morrow brings.

When struck by snow and ash last year I talked to the management at the hotel about that and they pointed out that generally if people can't get out, then nor can they get in, so rooms should be available.

Hope today brings some resolution.

What a nightmare, was stuck in Shanghai for 5 extra days back in April due to ash so can empathise with the predicament!

Strange that they didn't put you on the VS18 (if available) as that'd still have you home today (Thursday)...

The worst that could happen would be if VS say you must pay part of the cost - unlikely they would do this though - particularly if you are just continuing your stay!

It was already full and due to the already existing flight cancellations/mergers that were announced earlier in the week (light loads I'd imagine) it's all been a bit of a scramble. Anyway , fingers crossed for getting out today :)
