Has anyone had any experience of cancelling/changing a BA or VS flight booked using BA / Flying Club miles?

According to the web sites you get a full refund of all the miles and all the taxes etc. if you cancel for only a very small fee (£15/£25). Is that correct? Seems very generous.

I want to book a miles flight but my preferred dates aren't available so am thinking of booking the "next best" which probably means either the day before or LAX rather than LAS. And then if the preferred dates/destinations come available then changing either by canceling with one airline and going with the other or just changing within the airline.

Would be interested to hear people's experience - is it a painless operation?

look at section 4.2 here

The change fee is listed as £ 25. The Cancellation fee is £ 30.

My reading is that if you cancel more than 7 days of your departure date you get 75% miles recredited. Cancel within seven days and you loose the lot.

But yes booking your next best option is probbaly better than not getting anything at all. People have reported on here having done that but they also check daily to see is any reward seats have become available.

If you do get lucky and they have openienf up then ring VS immediatly (i.e. don't decide to have a cup of tea, walk the dog or do the washing up before calling) and ask for to change.

However, I think that as LAS is a popular destination then rewards are very limited bt you could get lucky.

I've just changed out VS miles flights without any issue. The change is £25 and you will have to pay any extra taxes if they are required on the new date. You can also upgrade/downgrade to a different class.

I you cancel you only get 75% of miles back.

Not sure what the BA rules are.

On BA, you can change anything but the name for a fee, and subject to any difference in taxes.

Cancellation outside of 24 hours, subject to a cancellation fee, full miles are returned. Within 24 hours, no miles returned.

Slightly different rules for part cash, part miles - i.e. if there was more than one option you have to stick with the one you chose, say for example 20,000 miles plus cach couldn't be changed to 50,000 miles plus cash.

All subject to availability of course.
