This flight was a treat for my Mum for her 80th birthday, my brothers and I decided to surprise her with an Upper Class seat :) . No suspicions when we went through the Virgin security channel nor when we were in LHR club lounge - told her a little lie and said I'd got tickets into lounge from frequent Virgin holiday club :| I was disappointed as lounge was not as good as times I'd been in before especailly as staff seemed happy to chitter chatter rather than look after customers ii) .
Flight was called Mum and I made our way to our flight. She walked in saying how they had changed the style of chairs (she's used to travelling premium economy!)so once she was seated and comfortable I told her she was in Upper Class and it was a surprise for her but my god you would have thought she had travelled Upper all her life she took to it like a duck to a pond 8D She loved her little duvet and her big pillow. She managed to have a sly little snooze ][|) not that she'll admit to it.
She got herself a great stewardess who plied her with nice hot weak (she's very specific)tea and the odd wee vodka and orange (she'll tell you she's not a drinker but never refuses a vodka) ;) . I was able to relax and enjoy the entertainment while she was being looked after. The food was very good and Mum was real happy to have her 'afternoon tea and scones' and even happier when I could join her at her seat to have tea and scones. The stewardess were fantastic throughout the flight.
We made very good time and Mum thanked her stewardess for all her help and attention.
We made our way to customs and were one of the first in the queue Mum moved pretty quickly for an 80 year old although a little winded. Her only disappointment was that the guy at customs didn't take her fingerprints she was so keyed up for that one. She was very impressed with how quickly we got our luggage and we headed out to get a NYC yellow taxi (our fare didn't include chauffeur car). Hello New York we were ready to shop till we dropped for our Xmas prezzies :)
Mum says she doesn't think she'll be up for another trip (she's said that on the previous 3 she's been on) as her little legs can't take the pace but she was pretty impressive getting through JFK. A good time was had and Mum spent much money but she loved every minute of her time in NYC and has been recalling her trip especially the Upper Class travel to all her friends.
She is still thanking us for her wonderful treat lots of hugs and kisses came our way :X but it was wonderful to see the joy she got out of her Upper Class experience.
Return trip to follow - this was not as much fun as the journey to NYC

Thanks for the TR Rockscottie, glad your mum enjoyed the UCS treatment.

I'm impressed that your first post is a Trip Report. Most newbies - like me - start off by asking an inane question :)

Hope she had an amazing time in Upper, what a lovely gift!

Doing the same, but used my miles for my mum, nan and bro (who all think there flying economy for family trip to Boston, cant wait to surprise them all! 8D ) so my account is wiped out. Next challenge to save for upper to Sydney!
