A similar thread has been running on FT for a few days now, in the BA forum. I've just received the flyer, and there is also an offer on FC miles.

Transfer 5000 miles and they will be doubled. After that, a 15% bonus. Miles to be transferred by 25 Feb and bonus miles will be awarded by 31 March.

Not quite as good as the BA offer of 40% on all miles transferred.

Flyer says offer is directed at "selected cardmembers" but there is no code.

Sorry, Nick - yes it is snail mail. A small, glossy 8 page booklet.

Me too ! was thinking I should move them over from Amex

Wonder if I'll get the 'you have been specially selected ...' letter.

Assuming I am so honoured I have 30k miles so could I move them over as 6 * 5k blocks or you reckon Amex have spotted that one?

The wording is "your first 5000 miles" and thereafter 15% so I don't think your tactic would work. Someone on FT also implied that it was a "one shot" eligible transfer per member but I can't find anything in the T&Cs to support that.

I got the flyer a month after sending my miles over, which was not simple having to call AMEX concierge to help as transaction wouldn't work!

However when I transferred over 25k in miles I received 30k+ (with a transfer bonus :) ) so I think this offer has been going for a while as I received bonus miles before the 'snail mail' (which I am thankful for!)

Now I have finally been accepted for VS black my amex platinum spend has shot down, but for the benefits I'll keep that card.

However I am unsure whether to save for more reward flights on Virgin (say a family trip like I have done) OR save for a reward flight on a first class flight say BA first/go for the BA amex and get the 10k 2for1 voucher be nice to experience Qantas/BA first.

There's also an online banner on the MR website, mentioned in this thread

I've received the offer, but would welcome your advice. I've never redeemed on BA, but the 40% bonus seems like a great deal compared to the 15% with Virgin.

Is BA's CW redemption availability to the USA any worse than Virgin's. If not, I think the 40% might be too good to pass up!

Many thanks

I don't seem to have that deal but have noticed that if I transfer to SPG first then when I transfer from SPG -> BA or Virgin, I get 5K extra with 20K transferred. Nice!

JCBR is spot on.

Those great people at Flyertalk have a great tool to tell the best way of converting balances between the various loyalty points schemes - http://www.insideflyer.com/tools/mileage_converter/

The downside in almost every case is that the more schemes you convert through, the lower the value of the points. Having said that, if you have some residual points in a scheme which you are unlikely to make use of, then any conversion rate is better then nothing.

Anyone done this successfully without the flyer in the US?

I have MR points, I have a FC account, I do NOT have a flyer!

If I understand correctly, transfer 5000 and you get another 5k for free- doubling the miles. is there a minimum you must transfer?

Yes, however, its a shame they don't have an offer like BA or Delta do.

If you don't have the mailing in the US you will not see the offer when you go to transfer the points. If you were targeted in the mailing and have lost/misplaced/thrown out the booklet you will still be able to transfer and take advantage of the offer as it will be shown on your MR account online.

aha - I just looked and its not in my MR transfer account, only the 15% offer is. methinks I shall wait.

good advice though, and hopefully they will extend it to US cardholders

I haven't moved points before and haven't received a flyer / seen the bonus banner when attempting a dummy transaction.

With heaps more aircraft the redemption for BA premium cabins is much better to the US and more locations too, just dont expect redemption availability for the likes of bkk & sin which are pretty rare

cheers
