The driver was a hoot this afternoon on the train from West Croydon to Balham

At one point he said 'this is your captain speaking' went on about why we were delayed then said 'sit back and relax and enjoy your journey'. The only thing he didn't mention was our cruising altitude (well 6 feet is hardly cruising is it).

He also had that authoratitive voice only pilots seam to have rather then the mumbling we usually get.

Fair cheered me up !

Good one.

In my days of working in the city and commuting back to Putney, Earls Court was the bane of life with its constant delays, poor announcements, platform changes etc.

Once, stuck on a train at platform 4 waiting to pull out, the signals change, another train pulls in and goes, repeated, and again, then the driver announces:

"Brewery, piss-up, organize, couldn't, in a - rearrange those and you have the signal staff at Earls Court!".

It was the most erudite thing I'd ever heard from a driver, especially on the District Line where every other train goes to the mysterious place of 'Upminister'!!!

Very funny PL. Never understood the kudos that pilots have compared to train and bus operators.
I have a couple of friends who are BA captains who get uppity when I call them airplane drivers.
