Miles+ Money

Hi
Can someone answer my query regarding earning miles on miles and money bookings?
Having booked two miles and money bookings last year both to Miami and having both earned miles and tier points I am a little upset to find after ringing virgin to give them my flying club number as I could not entre it online for our flight on Friday (MAN-MCO)to find that you cannot earn miles on bookings that are miles and money.
I told him that I have done last time and that it was always the policy of Virgin Atlantic – but how come I earned the miles then? – The question could not be answered – I am a little disappointed with Virgin as there is no way that I will keep my silver membership this year

The agents is correct, MPM fares do not earn miles or TP's, this is clearly stated on various pages on the VS website, mainly here in the T&C's.

Luckily for you, you seem to have gained an advantage in the past where a glitch in the system, meant some people did earn them. This is not standard and there has been no change in the T&C's.

There really isn't anything you can do and just like miles only bookings, you can't really expect discounted fares by using miles, and the benefits of earning them also.

Jack, you just got lucky last time, M&Ms are usually shunned by many on here for the reason they're not always much cheaper and carry no miles and TPs. We have heard of others getting lucky too on occasion, but it's not routine.

Thanks for your reply - I did not know that you diddn't get the miles for M&M I must have been really lucky - I just thought that it was routine as both times that we went to Miami last July and October 2009 we got miles! and Tier Points - At least I know this for future

At least they didn't try and take back the miles and TPs from you like one hotel chain said they really should have done to me when I got some miles I shouldn't have.

But as Neil said you really can't expect to spend 2,000 for a M+M econ ticket then get those miles straight back plus the balance to the miles for your destination (plus 25% silver bonus)) and TPs as well.

nah I agree I wouldn't expect that either but flew both PE and UC and got miles and tier points for both which means i must have been really lucky

You have been lucky, it was a glitch and still some people are reporting they have got miles, but it's not clear how or why it is happening, so as I said earlier, I guess you should be happy you have had them in the past when you shouldn't have.

Yeah I am very happy now that I know that It was down to a glitch
