Thank you Dr V, another great report. But I do feel slightly let down. I expected the roomy travelling trousers to make at least a cameo appearance, but alas, not a mention. What fate befell them?

Neil - Little Miss Tizer would, of course, have loved to have featured more heavily in both my CPT trip reports. After all, we're talking about a young lady who, whilst on a family hike at the weekend, insisted in standing in the middle of a field singing 'Tomorrow' to the sheep... Alas, the late hour of both flights limited her role in my TRs to that of sleeping child, thank god.

Red - after two weeks of extensive breakfasts, leisurely lunches and four course dinners in some of the Cape's finest restaurants, my Roomy Travelling Trousers were - well - just travelling trousers...

Okay, I'll let her off this time, but I think nice 11am flight to MCO in Y should be the perfect platform for her to return to former glory. Please arrange this for your darling little daughter and her VF fan club.

I very much doubt she'll go! She will insist one of her parents make the sacrifice or scream till she's sick! :D

Another offering of unparalleled erudition, wit and information. Definitely one to make me think that we should splash the next lot of miles on a trip to MrsPJHs homeland.

Sorry, not convinced by the "Tizer can only sleep in the pointy bit" argument. When we first embarked on long haul a baker's dozen or so years back the Less Favoured One could happily curl up (in much the same manner as a Wimpy 'Big, Bendilicious Bender') in a Y seat with space to spare and sleep for 8 hours straight through, whilst her parents were getting increasingly bug eyed through sleep deprivation. Face up to your fears, and get down the back, so that PE is then seen as something for which to strive. You're definitely making a rod for your own back, particularly when the age of adult fares is reached... :)

Surprised by the lack of wine of the region. It was a VS flight that led me to my current spicy Pinotage addiction.

Great report. Cape Town, maybe the best city in the world, and I'm fifty miles from SF! Only one problem with SA it's addicitive, visit #16 next November, with game lodge, and many days in CPT area, including two nights at new foodie mecca, Paternoster.
One problem, I'm not sure every child is as well behaved as the estimable Tizer, so now with 7D being popular my 5A, 6A set up will not be as atrtractive.

Paul, I fear the proverbial rod has already been grafted to my back. We might have stood a chance trying her in Y a couple of years ago, but I worry it would be too much like hard work now for all concerned until she's a bit older. Don't get me wrong, I'd give it a go on a day flight, or even overnight - say - JFK-LHR, but 12 hours to and from CPT wouldn't wash, I'm afraid.

It's currently snowing outside, so I've added some sunny photos to try and make myself feel a little warmer. It hasn't worked.

Perhaps the absence of a "tongue-in-cheek" smiley would have helped with my original post. And anyway, putting Tizer in row 64 whilst Mr and Mrs Mdvipond are in 6A and K would be unfair. ;)

Good pictures tho'.

And on the subject of Wimpy, we have found one in Marlow, home to Rolf Harris, Heston Blumenthal and Peter "Harry Pearce" Firth....

Ah, now if the arrangement is grown-ups up front and Tizer in 64E, I'm sure that would work out very nicely (although perhaps not so much for whoever found themselves in 64D & F...).

Just caught up with this thread - another fantastic read, thanks Dr V!

With my young Emma (8, 9 in May) only being a couple of years older than Tizer, and Capetown on the list of must visits, I'd appreciate any hints you have of places to visit etc other than those already discussed - my visit to SA is getting closer I feel...

Oh yes, and imagine my shock several years ago when walking down the High Street in Billericay, Essex (no, I can't remember why I was there) to discover a Wimpy! And, it's still there! I had a burger in there for old times sake, and it tasted exactly how they used to taste - when I were a lad...

Thanks C-RIP. And well done for adding to our list of Wimpys. Any chance Pete can integrate these into some kind of interactive map in the 'Tools' section? Ta...

As you say, there's already been a fair few tips and hints for trips to Cape Town discussed in this and my previous TR. Happy to enlighten you further though, especially in light of taking your darling offspring along. Feel free to PM me and I'll see what I can come up with.
