Economy - leg room question.

Hi all,

I'm flying with Virgin Atlantic/Virgin Holidays in Sept to orlando in Economy. I'm 6 3' and worried about legroom. I have booked an end of row seat to help a little. Anyone else around my height and had any issues in Economy and room?
I am looking at getting the extra legroom seats but they have to be book on the day at a cost?

I'm looking at upgrading to PE but at the moment its £380 each way to upgrade, unless i win the lottery i wont be able too. Took a look at upper class, checked out all the cool things in UC then went back to reality haha.

I am about the same height and have flown to Orlando and New York in the past in economy. Its not pleasant, particularly when they put a big guy in front as well as I had once. I am of the opinion that nobody should recline their seat on a day flight but you will get squashed coming home.
It is of course doable and I survived if found it unpleasant. Of late, I have always been up front thanks to sale fares and miles whoring from multiple sources. I suggest you join flying club and start accumulating for future trips.

At 6'3" it's not going to be the most comfortable experience for 9 hours in economy.

I'd suggest getting the extra legroom seats as you have mentioned. The seats are available at the airport for £30 one way, on occasion VS have been known to call in advance of the flight to offer the extra legroom seats - not sure if this applies for VH customers too.

I disagree. You should be free to recline your seat without fear of annoying fellow passengers day or night. However, I do think it unacceptable to have seats reclined during a meal service.

The issue, and it is one that has been discussed numerous times on here in the past, is that the airlines offer you a seat that has the ability to recline. You have paid for that seat, so why shouldn't you use all of its features? I actually personally find the seat more uncomfortable in the reclined position, but if the person in front of me reclines, then I just do the same.

I agree with Jeffers that the only time you shouldn't be allowed to recline is during meal services, and to be fair the CC are very good at enforcing this.

Go for the extra legroom seat, you will be chewing your kness and struggle to get comfy otherwise.. (I'm over 6ft, and can't get comfy and avoid Y where ever possible, but I'm a grumpy middle-aged man).

In terms of recline I'm with Neil et al, the issue isn't with the passenger reclining their seat (they/you've paid for it- especially if you're tall- I historically always reclined checking with pax behind before sending anything flying, expect during meals etc)- the issue is with the airline and the product. If you tut and grumble about the seat invading your space- pay more money for a higher cabin?(although during meal times is just commonsense and I'd be talking with CC if pax in front didn't straighten their seat)

I don't know if this has already been mentioned - but you can now pre-book exit row seats and extra legroom seats, just by calling customer service.

My son is 6'7" and when we flew back from Orlando last year the guy at check-in told me I should always phone ahead and warn them a few weeks before.
We fly to Vegas in 3 weeks, so I phoned and was told that, as of last month, you can now book and pre-pay them in advance!
The only word of caution was you have to fit in with the rules that allow you to sit in an exit row seat (age etc) - and if you fail to fulfil this criteria on arrival at the airport you forfeit your money.

Our Extra Leg Room or Exit Row Seats can purchased when you check in at the airport on the day you travel. Alternatively, if you have booked through the Virgin Atlantic website or our contact centre, you can now also book these seats by simply calling us on 0844 209 7777 up to 24 hours before you travel

Thanks for the great info all! I contacted VH and they are looking at £450 for PE to orlando and £380ish to gatwick. Might hang it a little and see if prices change.

Exit row seats/extra legroom seats according to VH i can prebook them so im gonna give that ago.

I joined FC mid last year only clocked up 60miles, brought a mac too, but forgot to click the link via the e-shop so i was gutted there.
