Thought I'd share this as it's worth knowing: I use Virgin Wine Bank, the scheme where you deposit a regular payment into your "wine bank" and then each quarter Virgin Wines credit your account with an amount equal to your monthly payment. In other words if you deposit £20 a month you actually end up with £80 after three months. It's a good scheme, I quite like it as you tend to forget about your growing balance so it's a nice surprise to have some spare cash for wine.

You don't earn the usual 750 miles per order when ordering from Wine Bank which is fair enough given that they are giving you a bonus cash payment each quarter. Last week though I had a need to order four half cases of wine for a friend and so didn't want to use my Wine Bank. I called Virgin Wines and they said no problem and even offered to process these four half cases as four separate orders so I get 750 miles per order. I just checked my FC statement and lo & behold I earned a whopping 3000 miles just for buying some cheapish half cases of wine, total order value less than £180!!

So next time you order more than one box of wine, don't do it on-line....just call them and have them process each box as a separate order and watch your FC miles balance grow astonishingly quickly. Remember also that you earn double miles by paying on MBNA AMEX Black y)

Do you not get stung for separate delivery charges for each??

Have always tended to avoid online, as historically had issue with the system not allocating miles. Didn't know you could order half cases (assume you refer to 6 bottle?).

I should have also said that the norm seems to be when phoning is that they throw in delivery for free.

I think it's because the actual wine advisor you're dealing with gets a commission on the overall sale so he/she basically bends over backwards to make you part with money! It seems that they have a margin within which they can work and this results in discounts or free delivery. It's only through phoning that I realised this was the case. The advisor I spoke to last week made it abundantly clear that I should call him personally next time and he provided his direct number and email.

On my order last week three of the four boxes were free delivery, so all in all pretty good and certainly worth 3,000 miles which ordinarily would take £1500 worth of credit card spend to achieve.
