Hi all,

New member here :)

Just booked a 2 centre holiday in Cuba in September and going to be flying Virgin for the first time, It's not booked through Virgin holidays but with a travel agent.

Was getting very excited already about flying Virgin for the first time especially the in flight entertainment, until i read about the old as your hat system on the Virgin 747's that are used out of Gatwick.

Having flown with Emirates and Qatar in the past(both economy the same as this flight) i've experienced great in flight goodies.
I know it's about the destination but i do need good entertainment as i don't sleep while flying.

I suppose its ok on the way out but a ten hour flight with no on demand content homeward bound is not good.

sorry for the moan on my first post ii)

Hello and welcome!

What date are you travelling? Some of the brand new A330 will be in operation from LGW by then and you may potentially have one for your flight.

Hi halcyondays and welcome to the forum. I was a first time Virgin to Cuba last June. We ended up on a LHR 747, so didn't experience the LGW one's. But I can honestly say the flight with Virgin was amazing, and really helped make the trip memorable. I was previously a BA flyer, but having experienced such a fab trip with Virgin , excellent and very attentive service, I am a Virgin convert, so much so that I'm off to NYC with Virgin in May.

I totally loved Cuba and would defo go back and would fly Virgin again definately.

Flying out of LGW on 7th September, we have 4 nights in Havana and 10 nights in Varadero, It will be my first time on a 747 so as much as i'd like an airbus(which i do prefer) i'd really like the 747 experience this time.

There is no getting away from the fact that the Odyssey and Nova systems are an embarrassment to the airline.
However, most movie / games / IFE junkies have their own enetertainment in the form of iPads, phones, PSPs etc. so that the need for a state of the art system isn't as great as it used to be,
Also the new system on the A330's does look very good, so the airline is slowly catching up with its Asian competitors. :w

halcyondays, I spent a week in Varadero and loved it, the drive from Havana to Varadero is approx 2 - 2 1/2 hours, but as your staying in Havana first, should be too bad, I flew into havana and straight into a car for the drive down, not great with the heat and after one to may champagnes on the flight lol. Hope you have a totally fab time :-)

Cheers mate :)

yeah i don't mind the drive after a short stay in Havana, few years ago we went to Thailand and stayed in Bangkok for 4 nights then went on to Hua Hin which was about the same driving time as Havana to Varadero, time flew by as there was alot to see. even on the way back wasn't that bad but does add to an already very long days travelling on the way home.

oh and yes, those complimentary drinks ;)
