Hello,

I can't seem to find the answer to this.

Some friends of mine want to book flights to MCO.

The M+M fare is providing a greater saving than the £45 it would cost to buy 2000 miles.

,My question is, they aren't currently FC members - can they sign up, buy 2000 miles then book the M+M fares, or do they have to have taken a flight?

Thanks,

Luke

IIRC, once you sign up to FC you can buy miles straight away. The only thing is, you don't get your card issued until your first flight, but that is no great hardship.

If they go down this route, there is no real point in you referring them under the 'miles more friends' scheme, as you will only get miles when they take a points earning flight.

Unless, of course, they claim points for their M+M flights. 8D B) :D

LOL thanks Nick!! That's great, I'll still refer them and we'll see!

All 4 of them to refer...fingers crossed 4 miles!

I don't think they can. On the VS website it says
Buy miles/Gift miles cannot be purchased unless a previous earning activity is showing in a member's account.

presumably to prevent people from doing exactly what you are asking

It's at the very end of the Ts&Cs

Thanks HL, do you think a shopping purchase would qualify for a previous earning activity?

I suppose as an alternative, I could buy 8000 miles for the 4 of them and book the flights using my FC account so they can benefit from the M+M fares? Is that an option?

Thanks Scrooge - do you mean it works when my friends sign up to FC, buy 2000 miles and complete a shopping purchase, they can then buy a M+M fare OR me buying the trip on their behalf?

I think he means buying the M&M fare on their behalf.

They won't be ably to buy the miles themselves until they have had some earned miles on their account (like shopping or virgin wines or the the VS MBNA credit card) but than take a while to come through.

Neither will you be able to buy and gift miles to them until they have earned some miles.
