Economy is really not THAT bad !

Struggle with most restaurants in the US now. Not that I've tried many 'high end', have to admit. For us, priority is to travel in as much comfort as poss, rent a place so we can have space and - often, actually, eat in. Portions in restaurants far too big, served far too fast and generally don't hit the spot. Or any spot. Works well for us BUT the point is, I guess that everyone prioritises in their own way?

You can do a hell of a lot worse than cheesecake factory!!! It's definitely not fast food by any means and it's not low end!!!

Agree it is all relative but cheesecake factory is no way the lowest of the low which was implied by " you can't get much more low end than that" - sorry that's not true! Denny's, burger king etc this is low end!

For some they may never have experienced BK or Mcdonalds etc and may view cheesecake factory as low end but no one can ignore the fact that they exist and sit lower down!

Personally I really rate cheesecake factory, in the same way as the guidebooks do! Frommers, lonely plant etc, rated as mid range!

Luke let me introduce you to HG...I wouldn't worry about it, words such as budget,different, bubble,expenses should spring to mind.
It's not meant to be demeaning, or insulting, its just a whole different arena, its not ill meaning, actually quite comical sometimes, if a little controversial... :X

The only nice thing about economy is the price !

I've been lucky that my parents took me to plenty of far flung destinations in my childhood and teenage years. 95% of the time this was done in Economy, including trips to NZ and Australia. To be honest it was a question of Economy or stay at home. We did manage to get one or two upgrades which opened my eyes to the life beyond the curtain.

Now I'm in my mid 20's and independent of them financially, if it's a choice of paying hard cash alone, it's still Economy. However the Flying Club and AMEX card have enabled me to avoid Economy on 2 of my last 3 long haul trips. The Economy trip was to NY at Xmas and was pretty bareable.

The PE upgrade voucher with the AMEX card is a great way of upgrading, especially with the redemption sale to NY. I've also used miles to fly Upper once to Shanghai, and whilst I was impressed, I think PE represents the best all-round value for money versus comfort.

It wasn't cast as hurtful, more putting things to perpective. I'm not starting a fight, far from it. My comments about Budget levels & lifestyle level, I don't think are far from the truth, and I specifically defended you against someone who was taking exception..

Some would offer that describing Hyatt's and Marriot's as Mediocre and IMHO for the price, a fairly nice Cheesecake Factory as the "lowest of the low" as insulting. Yes there are MUCH nicer places out there, but they generally cost a lot more, in terms of comparison of hotels and eateries at that price bracket they are fine, hence the reaction by others to your initial comments, as it reads as "I wouldn't & don't lower myself to such (lowest of the low) standards, as I can always afford better". Sorry to be blunt but I get the impression it is being read that way (as seen from the reactions). I think you are a great contributor but its all about accepting not everyone has the opportunity to 5* it..
Hey a bacon sandwich from a van is lowest of the low, but damn they taste good!

HG - I was offended by the above comment. Whilst it may not have been intended to be offensive, it was perceived by me (and others) in this way.

I'm not here to cause problems or argue with anyone, but I do think it's important to feedback to people when others have been offended (certainly if I had offended anyone, I would want to understand why!).

For me, I think Cheesecake Factory is a really nice place and in fact (and perhaps why I took it personally) is that I took my partner here for their birthday celebration in Florida last year. Reading your comment makes me feel I take my partner somewhere that is the lowest of the low.

I completely appreciate everyone comes from different walks of life and have different definitions of what is high end and low end, but I fail to believe you could class Cheesecake factory at the lowest of the low of fast food? Especially when you've got the likes of Burger King, McDonalds, Dennys, TGI's etc. Even if you did still class this as low end, in your opinion, you must be prepared for others to disagree.

I value your posts and genuinely mean no offence by this comment. I certainly wouldn't make assumptions about your personality on this single comment.

I was just thinking as I walked through VIP security and into the Lounge to eat, get a glass and chill out prior to VS9 boarding, (EC returning home to NYC) how lucky we all are. Yes I would rather be at the pointy bit ALL of the time, but a cheap ticket made this little trip back to see the old ma possible. Considering what crappy service I had to put up with to get into and across London from 80miles north of it for 30% of my transatlantic ticket cost, I am going to stop complaining. well... almost (!): No upgrade. boo hoo.

To take it back to economy flying, you know what Alan Bennett says? He doesn't fly first class because he says you all die the same way!? But, seriously, I don't mind economy if it's on the right airline. There are some that just make it a painful experience though, yes Ryanair - I'm looking at you!
