High speed rail link out of London eventually?
Could pull major geographical area
If facilities & routes available

That is an interesting thought NH!
Said before the election but might still be relevant:
The next Conservative government will begin work immediately to create a high speed rail line connecting London and Heathrow with Birmingham, Manchester and Leeds, with construction to begin in 2015. The commitment to build this line is the first step towards achieving our vision of a national high speed rail network to join up major cities across England, Scotland and Wales.

An HSR link between LHR & MAN could be a quicker connection than LGW/LHR.

Virgin to open V-Room at Manchester

Monday, November 08, 2010

Virgin Holidays is to open a V-Room at Manchester Airport following the success of a similar venture at Gatwick Airport.

Speaking at the Caribbean Tourism Organisation’s European Marketing Forum in London, Virgin Holidays purchasing director John Taker said offering extras such as the V-Room was one way in which the operator had been riding out the downturn.

The V Room is a dedicated departure lounge offering extras including quiet areas, and family-friendly and fun zones.

“We’ve been focussing on price and extras such as the V Room in Gatwick, and now in Manchester,” he said.

“We also took a decision to reinforce our brand reassurance, and we decided that in the downturn it was important to maintain our marketing budgets and keep advertising.”

Grrr, I fly out on the 26th but I'm only in UC booked with VA anyway. I doubt I'll be invited to try it before it opens as it looks destined for VH users only.
